Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in program management.
  • Experience with new product introduction across software or hardware products (e.g., architecture, development, launch).
  • Experience in optical design.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
  • Experience with optical devices (e.g., lasers, modulators, photodetectors, MEMS, passive devices, etc.), and corresponding development cycles (e.g., reliability/quality aspects).
  • Experience in product development in the field of optical communication.
  • Experience leading architecture design of optical communication systems.
  • Knowledge of distributed systems.
  • Excellent program management skills, with the ability to drive and land programs.

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you’ll use your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You're equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

The Platforms Infrastructure Engineering PMO is part of technical infrastructure under ML Systems and Cloud AI (MSCA) programs organization. The team partners with GCE/technical infrastructure engineering, networking, data center, supply chain and operations teams to deliver a broad product roadmap of AI/ML systems and solutions critical to enabling third-party and first-party services. The organization provides technical program management, focusing on increasing velocity, quality, predictability, and coordination across teams.

In this role, you will design, build, and deliver industry-leading ML systems and solutions that are critical to enabling Cloud third-party IaaS business and Google first-party services.

The ML, Systems, & Cloud AI (MSCA) organization at Google designs, implements, and manages the hardware, software, machine learning, and systems infrastructure for all Google services (Search, YouTube, etc.) and Google Cloud. Our end users are Googlers, Cloud customers and the billions of people who use Google services around the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $163,000-$237,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead a cross-functional team to develop and deliver programs from inception to production. 
  • Orchestrate the overall program strategy and drive execution across cross-functional teams.
  • Set the idea and direction for a program by outlining goals and objectives, evaluating and supervising multiple projects, organizing cross-project work within the program, and defining program controls/governance/standards.
  • Manage multiple cross-functional programs simultaneously with competing priorities. Manage escalations and unblock obstacles, ensure all leadership/stakeholders are aware of progress/blockers on a continuous basis.
  • Use technical knowledge to drive project delivery, technology reviews, challenge proposals, and build consensus.
