PGS Worldwide is seeking a Technical Publications Writer for a remote one-year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.

The Technical Publications Writer will support the F-16 program by researching, writing, editing, and converting legacy SGML technical manuals into S1000D XML format. This role requires aircraft systems knowledge, technical writing experience, and the ability to interpret engineering data to produce accurate maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational documentation.

Required Skills

  • 4+ years of experience with aircraft systems.
  • 2+ years of experience with SGML or XML.
  • 2+ years of technical writing experience.
  • Experience or knowledge of aircraft systems such as hydraulics, lighting, air conditioning, fire protection, oxygen, emergency power, crew escape and safety, canopy jettison, ejection seat, ice protection, pneumatic supply, towing and taxiing, structures, corrosion control, nondestructive inspections, propulsion, avionics, or weapons.
  • Experience with Standard Generalized Markup Language tagging.
  • Experience with Extensible Markup Language tagging.
  • Ability to research, write, and edit technical content for aircraft maintenance and operations manuals.
  • Ability to follow contractual requirements, military specifications, style guides, formatting standards, and publication specifications.
  • Ability to review and validate technical content for clarity, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Ability to support publication updates based on customer feedback, operational findings, and aircraft configuration changes.
  • Ability to maintain documentation schedules and deliver assigned publications on time.
  • Experience using content management systems and publishing tools.
  • Ability to support electronic and/or printed technical publication deliverables.
  • Ability to ensure documentation meets quality assurance requirements and audit standards.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior military aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Experience with military aircraft platforms using XML, S1000D, and Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals in a composite environment.
  • Experience using Epic Editor, IsoDraw, ArborText Tool Suite, XML, S1000D, or similar applications.
  • F-16 aircraft experience.
  • Experience with technical manuals, IETMs, maintenance documentation, troubleshooting procedures, aircraft configuration updates, publication conversion, SGML-to-XML conversion, and S1000D data modules.

  • Use publishing tools and content management systems to prepare technical manuals.
  • Support electronic and printed technical publication deliverables.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, sustainment, and quality teams.
  • Ensure documentation meets internal quality standards and external audit requirements.
