Technical Sales Engineer – Truck Scale Kiosks & Software

Rice Lake Weighing Systems (RLWS) is seeking a Technical Sales Engineer to serve as the technical and product expert for our truck scale kiosks and software solutions. This role combines technical sales, customer service, product expertise, application engineering, and product development to deliver solutions that meet the unique needs of our customers and dealers.

The Technical Sales Engineer will work closely with customers, Regional Sales Directors, dealers, Engineering, Technical Support, Manufacturing, and other internal teams to understand application requirements and develop the right solution. A key focus of the role is supporting custom-designed peripheral solutions for truck scales, which may include developing custom specifications, identifying appropriate hardware and software requirements, and coordinating the resources necessary to deliver a complete system.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, working directly with customers, and taking ownership of a product line from quotation through delivery and beyond. The successful candidate will be technically curious, commercially minded, highly organized, and committed to providing world-class customer service.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical sales and product expert for truck scale kiosks and related software solutions.
• Respond to customer and dealer inquiries regarding product capabilities, applications, specifications, pricing, availability, lead times, and technical requirements.
• Receive and process requests for quotations, orders, and lead times by telephone, email, web, and other communication channels.
• Develop quotations for standard and custom truck scale kiosk and software solutions.
• Work directly with customers and dealers to understand application requirements and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Develop and document application specifications to ensure the proposed system will meet customer expectations and function as intended.
• Support the development of custom kiosk solutions, including defining custom hardware, software, peripheral, and system requirements.
• Prepare custom product specifications and coordinate with internal resources to move solutions from concept through production.
• Ensure applications are properly specified by understanding product features, benefits, capabilities, limitations, operation, troubleshooting, theory, and practical application.
• Process customer orders accurately and efficiently and ensure appropriate information is communicated to customers and internal departments.
• Establish and manage pricing and margins for the truck scale kiosk and software product line.
• Monitor the product portfolio and identify opportunities for product enhancements, upgrades, and new product development.
• Provide continued product-line vision for truck scale kiosks and software based on customer needs, market opportunities, dealer feedback, and industry trends.
• Work with Engineering, Technical Support, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, and other departments to enhance existing products and develop new solutions.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related electromechanical field, or five or more years of experience in the weighing or related industry.
• Five or more years of experience in the weighing industry or a related technical industry preferred.
• Two or more years of sales experience preferred.
• Technical aptitude and the ability to understand and communicate complex hardware, software, and system concepts.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate customer requirements into practical technical solutions.
• Ability to understand product capabilities and limitations and apply that knowledge to customer applications.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence, resolve conflict, collaborate, and build relationships.
