Description

This role will be responsible for delivering technical training to our field technicians and customers through classroom, onsite, webinar, and other presentation methods. The Technical Trainer will be responsible for the development of training modules and materials and all other aspects of training program oversight as well as being responsible for identifying, developing and providing technical training to employees and customers with the ultimate goal to improve overall technical competency of all class participants.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, include the following, other duties may be assigned.

  • Create and maintain training materials and documentation for various power generation applications 
  • Provide technician training including classroom time, as well as hands-on training at multiple locations
  • Works with Human Resources and managers to define minimum skill proficiencies for technician positions and develops a process for evaluating employees for the purpose of identifying future training and career advancement opportunities
  • Develops a needs analysis to identify skills/competency gaps and establishes measures to track progress
  • Communicates with and appropriate Service Operation Managers to identify employees who have lost qualifications due to overdue training requirements
  • Obtain Training Instructor qualifications according to OEM vendor program/requirements
  • Gather and research information to create and deliver technical training concepts for OEM equipment as well as revise materials for existing classes, including course outlines, background materials, instructional materials, hand-outs and tests
  • Provides record keeping for all training activities, keeping current
  • Provides individual training paths for all Service Technicians
  • Confer with branch managers and senior management to determine training objectives on an ongoing basis to target training needs
  • Performs and reviews internal audits, surveys, and/or interviews with attendees to evaluate training course effectiveness. Uses the data collected to improve and make changes to curriculum
  • Continuously enhance technical instructional delivery and presentation skills through participation in outside meetings, seminars and training sessions
  • Generate technical support documentation for manuals to support training efforts, and manage proper versioning of instruction manual upgrades and additions for both hardware and software on installed base of equipment
  • Manage the training program in accordance with business needs, regulatory requirements and solicited participant feedback
  • Review the latest Technical Bulletins and Special Service Messages to remain current on technical issues, developments and improvements from the factories
  • Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting assistance to resolve customer issues and opportunities
  • Researches, establishes and maintains training vendor/partner relationships with other training agencies. Conduct cost-benefit analysis to assess utilization of outside training resources.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • An Associate’s degree in Heavy Duty Diesel Technology plus five (5) years of related industry experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
  • Technical experience with Power Generation and Emissions control equipment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and advanced analytical skills
  • Self-starter with good organizational skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Publisher, Access, PowerPoint, Excel
