Technical Writer – Federal Product Specifications

Location: Remote (US). One position works Eastern time (supporting New York, NY) and three work Central time (two supporting Kansas City, MO and one supporting Fort Worth, TX).

Type: Full-Time, Contract (contingent upon contract award)

Clearance: Must pass a federal background investigation and obtain a GSA PIV credential (HSPD-12)

About the Role:

We are seeking Technical Writers to support the GSA Global Supply Engineering Division. Technical Writers research products and create and update the Item Purchase Descriptions GSA uses to buy office supplies, furniture, hardware, cleaning products, and hand tools. They also make sure the related federal catalog records are accurate and consistent.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and update IPDs through product and market research and accurate data entry
• Research current manufacturer part numbers and contact information, and submit cataloging requests to update FLIS
• Determine salient characteristics, applicable standards, and packaging, marking, and labeling requirements
• Validate IPD data against FLIS, PICS, and GSA Advantage, and flag and correct discrepancies
• Record every IPD change, including the modification made, the date, the reason, and the person making it
• Upload supporting documentation (data sheets, SDS, correspondence) to government document systems
• Research sustainable product availability and industry trends to modernize IPDs
• Meet established turnaround standards and a 98% accuracy target

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in technical writing, research, or data entry
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and validation
• Comfortable with online product research and database systems
• Ability to work core hours of 9:00 AM-2:30 PM in the assigned branch's time zone

Preferred Qualifications:

• Federal cataloging experience (NSN, FLIS, DLA or GSA supply)
• Experience with TIMS, EDMS, PICS, or GSA Advantage
• Product knowledge in office supplies, furniture, hardware, chemicals, or tools
• HAZMAT training (49 CFR, IATA, or IMDG)
