Technical Writer III Security Products
Location - San Jose, CA (Hybrid - Highly Preferred) or Remote (U.S.) Work Setting: Hybrid, onsite 3 days per week for San Jose-based candidates; remote for candidates based in other locations
Role Overview
Our client's technical communications team is seeking a senior technical writer with deep expertise in security documentation for networking products. The successful candidate will independentl y own complex documentation initiatives, including installation guides, release notes, and user content for a range of networking security products.
This role requires close collaboration with engineering teams and the ability to mentor junior writers. Candidates should be comfortable working in lab environments and interpreting technical data.
Key Responsibilities
Independently own and drive complex, cross-functional documentation initiatives for security products.
Collaborate with engineering, product management, and customer support teams to gather technical information and ensure documentation accuracy.
Create and oversee installation guides, release notes, and other user content.
Organize and present complex technical information in a clear, concise, and logical manner for various personas (end users, installers, and support staff).
Edit and update existing documentation to reflect product updates and new features.
Mentor and provide guidance to junior technical writers.
Establish and refine standards and templates for technical writing and documentation.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
7+ years of experience writing security documentation for networking products.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience reviewing and editing others' work.
Deep understanding of networking concepts (Ethernet, TCP/IP, VLANs, etc.).
Proficient in authoring tools such as Oxygen XML, Markdown, or similar.
Experience with project management and issue-tracking platforms like Atlassian Jira.
Demonstrated experience working in and guiding cross-functional technical teams.
Experience with content management systems like Adobe Experience Manager or similar.
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Experience transforming content to be AI-ready, enabling end users to find information quickly and easily, in line with the client's AI content strategy.
