Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor"s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.
4 years of experience creating content for technical audiences, such as developer documentation, CS course materials, or IT playbooks.
2 years of experience collaborating with subject matter experts to document internal or external APIs and core infrastructure components.
Preferred qualifications:
Master"s degree in writing, engineering, or scientific-related field.
Track record of researching and writing effective documentation for engineers and internal audiences.
Understanding of YouTube from both the viewer and creator perspectives.
Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
About the job
Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that's useful to their audience.
As a Technical Writer for the YouTube Developer Infrastructure team, you will be the bridge between complex engineering concepts and the people who use them. You will support infrastructure teams across YouTube, researching and creating documentation for the tools, frameworks, and platforms that power the world's most popular video destination.
In this role, you'll have the independence to lead Partner with subject matter experts from YouTube infrastructure teams to document and teach complex technical information projects, working directly with subject matter experts to document core tech stacks and developer APIs for both internal and external engineering partners. You will be a strategic thinker ready to scale solutions and drive a documentation-first culture across YouTube.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $115,000-$165,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
