The Alaka'ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is seeking a Technical Writerto provide engineering design support for a DoD program in Orlando, FL.

DUTIES INCLUDE :

  • Supporting technical data tracking, versioning, and life cycle, be knowledgeable with assigned project writing specifications or standards.

  • Supporting DoD Technical Manual development and/or interactive electronic technical manuals (IETM)

  • Developing technical data leveraged from source data.

  • Completing and delivering a high quality product on schedule and ensuring final documentation clearly and effectively communicates the technical information and data to appropriate audiences;.

  • Ensuring documents are developed in accordance with program specifications.

  • Collecting and accumulating appropriate technical information and data through researching and analyzing technical data and publications, engineering drawings, test procedures, design specifications/documentation, software description documents, engineering documents and interviewing technical experts.

  • Working in a team environment, taking direction with minimal follow-up to complete a project.

  • Representing the organization as a subject matter expert (SME) on projects if necessary.

  • May be required to travel.

  • Supporting technical content development of Operation and Maintenance Manuals (O&M), Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Manual and Associated Supplemental Data.

  • Supporting technical content development of Engineering, Testing, and Logistics documents such as: Trainer Facility Report (TFR); Safety Assessment Report (SAR); Operations Security (OPSEC) and Cybersecurity Implementation Plan; Technical Report – Study/Services; Product Engineering Design Data and Associated Lists (PEDDAL); Engineering Data for Provisioning (EDFP); Bill of Materials (BOM) for Logistics and Supply Chain Risk Management; Equipment Inventory Records (EIRS); Software Development Plan (SDP); Risk Management Plan (RMP); Configuration Management Plan (CMP); Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP); Requirements Traceability Verification Matrix (RTVM); and Test And Evaluation Program Plan (TEPP).

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least four (4) years' experience as a technical writer of military specifications, standards, and technical manuals.

  • Experience with original writing or scientific, technical, engineering or other professional material requiring an understanding of the basic concepts, practices and specialized vocabulary of the appropriate scientific and technical field is preferred.

  • Experience acquiring additional information about the field and related fields to describe the principles, operations, and basic concepts in clear simple language is preferred.

  • A technical understanding of military or commercial systems, and technical writing/editing principles, theories, standards and concepts; strong working knowledge of the development of technical manuals and documentation; and strong working knowledge of computer-based tools in the production of technical documentation is preferred.

  • Ability to grasp new concepts quickly; to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information; strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to accurately analyze, document and develop technical procedures.

  • Ability to work both independently in a team environment is preferred.

  • Experience with Navy, Navy training system, or Navy ships is preferred.

  • Experience with technical documentation and technical data packages (TDP) in-process reviews is preferred.

  • AutoCAD Drafting experience is a plus.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • ​​Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism or similar discipline. Additional experience may substitute in lieu of a degree.
