Technical Writers

PGS Worldwide is seeking Technical Writers in Sterling Heights, Michigan for a one-year contract to hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. These positions will create and revise technical documentation supporting the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems. Both mid-level and senior candidates will work closely with engineering teams to translate technical designs, drawings, and system information into clear documentation that meets customer, government, and engineering requirements.

Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Mid-Level Track: 2+ additional years of relevant technical writing experience.
• Senior Track: 5+ additional years of relevant technical writing experience.
• Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, electronic, and system operations.
• Experience creating or revising technical documentation for complex equipment or systems.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical data, and engineering terminology.
• Ability to translate complex technical information into clear language for non-engineering audiences.
• Experience with XML authoring tools such as Arbortext Epic Editor, Oxygen, or similar software.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Professional or a comparable electronic PDF markup tool.
• Mechanical, electrical, and/or operator technical writing experience.
• Strong attention to detail and command of the English language.
• Ability to collaborate with engineering and other cross-functional teams.
• Customer interaction and customer-service skills.
• Senior-level candidates must have defense-industry experience.

Preferred Skills

• Defense-industry technical writing experience.
• Automotive-industry experience.
• Experience with Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs).
• Experience with Content Management Systems.
• Experience with validation and verification of technical procedures.
• On-vehicle validation experience.
• Familiarity with military and commercial technical-documentation standards.
• Microsoft Access experience.

What You'll Do

• Create and revise technical manuals, procedures, product descriptions, and system documentation.
• Develop operating, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and fault-isolation procedures.
• Create and maintain illustrated parts breakdowns and related technical content.
• Research systems and equipment by working directly with engineering personnel.
• Analyze engineering drawings, specifications, and technical data.
• Translate engineering information into accurate, user-friendly technical documentation.
• Review illustrations and graphics and identify required changes or new graphics.
• Ensure documentation complies with customer requirements, government specifications, and engineering standards.
• Support technical-document validation and verification activities.
• Participate in cross-functional technical reviews.
• Maintain documentation using XML authoring and publishing tools.
• Support IETM development and maintenance activities.
• Senior-level writers may lead smaller assignments or portions of larger technical-writing projects.
• Senior-level writers may provide project estimates, customer support, technical guidance, and input into documentation format and design.

Work Schedule / Shift

• 9/80 schedule.
• Full-time role based in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
• Overtime may be required.
• No travel expected.

Pay

• Mid-Level Technical Writer: $38.61 per hour.
• Senior Technical Writer: $47.42 per hour.
