Technician

The Technician L1 – Vehicle Test Technician supports engineering teams by performing routine vehicle maintenance, setting up and executing dynamometer driving tests, and compiling clear and accurate test documentation. This hands-on role requires strong mechanical aptitude, careful attention to detail, and the ability to follow established procedures while working both independently and in a collaborative team environment under direct supervision.

• Perform basic vehicle maintenance to prepare vehicles for testing, ensuring they meet required test conditions.
• Set up and conduct driving tests on a dynamometer, following defined test modes and procedures.
• Assemble, organize, and submit complete documentation packets from each test, including reports and supporting data.
• Conduct routine tests in accordance with standard operating procedures and established test modes.
• Use mechanical and fabrication tools safely and correctly for test setup and minor adjustments.
• Perform minor and light fabrication work and change vehicle part assemblies as required for test configurations.
• Learn, understand, and consistently apply proper testing procedures and best practices.
• Work under direct supervision while managing daily tasks and meeting assigned deadlines.
• Use computers to control test equipment and to assemble, format, and submit test reports.
• Execute driving tests consistently and reliably to ensure high-quality, repeatable test results.
• Collaborate with engineering and technical team members, maintaining a positive and professional team environment.
• Follow instructions carefully and adhere to all safety guidelines and operational protocols during testing activities.

• Automotive technician experience or exposure to vehicle service and maintenance.
• Mechanical assembly skills and ability to work with mechanical components and systems.
• Mechanical and electrical aptitude for understanding vehicle and test system operations.
• Hands-on vehicle maintenance skills, including routine service and preparation for testing.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate test execution and documentation.
• Willingness to learn new procedures, tools, and test methods.
• Positive attitude and ability to work effectively in a team environment under direct supervision.
• Comfort using computers for equipment control, data entry, and report assembly.
• Ability to consistently execute driving tests according to defined procedures.
• Ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures reliably and safely.

• Vocational certificate or Associate’s Degree in a related field such as automotive technology, mechanical technology, or a similar discipline.
• OR 4+ years of hands-on vehicle experience, which may qualify for higher levels of responsibility.
• Experience with dynamometer testing, including setup and operation, is beneficial but not required.
• Light fabrication skills, including basic cutting, fitting, or assembly of components for test configurations.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in automotive testing and engineering support.
• Ability to adapt to new test procedures and evolving project requirements.

This role operates in a hands-on automotive test environment that includes vehicle service areas and dynamometer test facilities. You work with mechanical and fabrication tools, computers for equipment control and report generation, and standard automotive testing equipment. The position involves close collaboration with engineering and technical staff, following established safety procedures and test protocols. Work is performed under direct supervision with a focus on accuracy, consistency, and clear documentation in a professional, team-oriented setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Ann Arbor, MI.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
