    Description

    Position Overview

    This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and replacing major mechanical and electrical components with minimal supervision. The role requires strong technical expertise in diesel engines and related systems, as well as the ability to perform both shop-based and field service work. The technician will diagnose and repair systems including, but not limited to, Tier 4 diesel engines, power take-off systems (PTO), electrical systems, instruments and gauges, and preventive maintenance services. This role also requires maintaining accurate service records and following established procedures. This position requires both shop and travel service work.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide technical service and support for generators and related equipment
    • Perform general and detailed repair of engines and components
    • Overhaul gas and diesel engines
    • Diagnose malfunctions by inspecting equipment and reviewing work orders
    • Read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical instructions
    • Inspect safety devices, guards, and components; make necessary adjustments
    • Tag and process warranty parts in accordance with company procedures
    • Stay current with technical bulletins and attend training as required
    • Maintain positive customer relationships and deliver high-quality service
    • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical issues
    • Inspect, lubricate, and service diesel engines and support systems (fuel, air, electrical)
    • Change fluids and filters as required for preventive maintenance
    • Ensure all safety systems are functioning properly
    • Assist and mentor less experienced technicians as needed
    • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
    • Accurately document time, repairs, and parts usage in company systems
    • Travel is required for this position, including service to remote locations; travel arrangements are coordinated in accordance with company procedures
    • Perform additional duties as assigned
    • Maintain regular and reliable attendance

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with company policy
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
    • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and service instructions
    • Strong mechanical aptitude in diesel engine maintenance and repair
    • Experience using diagnostic tools, repair manuals, and electrical diagrams
    • In-depth knowledge of diesel engine systems and components
    • Working knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems
    • Ability to safely operate service vehicles and test equipment
    • Basic welding or metal fabrication skills preferred
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to effectively plan and support field service work as needed

    Education & Experience

    • High school diploma or GED required
    • Technical training in Diesel Technology or a related field preferred
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in diesel engine repair and maintenance
    • Experience with engine diagnostics and rebuilding required
    • Proficiency with computer systems, including email, maintenance software, and diagnostic tools

    Work Environment

    • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and vibration
    • Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures and conditions
    • Work environment may be loud

    Tool Requirements

    • Have a complete set of hand tools.
