Job Summary:\n \nPerforms routine and complex laboratory procedures under the technical guidance of the Laboratory Manager, Assistant Manager, Supervisor, and Assistant Laboratory Supervisor. Responsible for workload recording and inventory control. Participates in research and development of new procedures. Exercises independent judgment, and critical thinking in work performance and interpersonal relations. Directs work to adjust to workflow. Training of new Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Technician. Major/other responsibilities may be assigned as a direct or indirect function of the position.\n \nEssential Responsibilities:\n\n Analytic: Performs requested laboratory tests and special analysis, such as proficiency testing, correlation studies or other, according to established laboratory and Medical Office policies and procedures. Prioritizes laboratory testing and other duties appropriately to assure optimal efficiency and timely reporting of laboratory results according to policy standards. Utilizes quality control procedures according to established procedures and takes appropriate action for Out of Control results. Documents QC appropriately. Recognizes trends, bias, shifts or other unexpected patterns and takes appropriate action. Reviews records for compliance. Directs or performs calibration or calibration verification/linearities as needed. Oversees or operates and maintains equipment. Performs routine safety checks and preventive maintenance on instruments according to procedures and manufacturers recommendations on a consistent, timely basis to insure optimal operation and minimal downtime. Recognizes when any component of the testing system is not performing optimally and performs troubleshooting procedures as warranted on equipment, reagents and procedures in an efficient manner that maintains testing schedules. Refers problems beyond his/her scope of practice to the Laboratory Manager, Assistant Manager, Supervisor, or Assistant Laboratory Supervisor.\n Pre-analytic: Receives electronic and manual orders for tests to be performed. Receives and/or obtains specimens, assisting with collections and processing when the workload warrants. Assumes responsibility for assuring collection of adequate and acceptable samples for analysis. Monitors workflow and makes adjustments as needed.\n Post-analytic: Responsible for timely release of patient results. Communicates with reference lab to confirm results, specimen disposition and to order supplies. Exercises independent judgment in determining whether test results are released, repeated, or referred for review. Consults with the Laboratory Manager, Assistant Manager, Supervisor, or Assistant Laboratory Supervisor when necessary.\n Administrative: Responsible for workload recording, records review and storage, and inventory control. Responsible for monitoring and resolving pending lists per policy. Updates reagents, QC, and test kit information including reagent lot to lot, parallel runs on new lot of QC, etc. Assigns proficiency testing. Responds appropriately to provider and clinical staff inquiries. Supports clinical point of care testing by facilitating issue resolution. Participates in department/facility meetings, conference calls, continuing education/in-services. Participates in orientation and training of new employees. Makes recommendations for improvements to the Laboratory Manager, Assistant Manager, Supervisor, or Assistant Laboratory Supervisor. Assumes responsibility for day-to-day operations of laboratory, including directing and supporting the collections, and accessioning/processing areas. Monitors the flow of the entire lab, both testing and draw room, de-escalating any issues that may arise in the Lab. Provides a laboratory leadership interface with clinical staff. Prepares for/participates in state/internal inspections, answering questions or providing documents. Responsible for compliance with information communicated in laboratory newsletters.\n \nBasic Qualifications:\n \nExperience\n\n Minimum two (2) years of post registration MT/MLS experience.\n \nEducation\n\n Bachelors degree and/or MT/MLS Registration or equivalent documentation from the state of Georgia.\n \nLicense, Certification, Registration\n\n GA Dept HR CLIA MT MLT Grnfthr OR Scientist in Microbiology OR Medical Technologist Certificate OR American Medical Technologists Registered Medical Assistant Certificate OR American Medical Technologist Medical Technologist Certificate OR American Board of Bioanalysis Medical Technologist Certificate OR Medical Lab Scientist Certificate OR Medical Lab Technician Certificate \n Basic Life Support required at hire\n \nAdditional Requirements:\n\n Able to work independently.\n Able to demonstrate good customer service skills.\n Able to demonstrate good interpersonal skills i.e. history of positive working relationships.\n Able to demonstrate dependability i.e. history of punctuality and good attendance.\n Able to demonstrate critical thinking skills.\n \nPreferred Qualifications:\n\n Leadership experience.\n \n\n* Bachelors degree in medical technology or related health science.\n \nPrimary Location: Georgia,Duluth,Gwinnett Medical Offices I Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36 Shift: Night Workdays: Fri, Sat, Sun Working Hours Start: 08:00 PM Working Hours End: 08:00 AM Job Schedule: Full-time Job Type: Standard Employee Status: Regular Worker Location: Onsite Employee Group/Union Affiliation: GUP|UFCW|Local 1996 Job Level: Entry Level Department: Gwinn Comprehensive Med Center - Pathology-General - 2808 Pay Range: $38.42 - $49.2 / hour Kaiser Permanente strives to offer a market competitive total rewards package and is committed to pay equity and transparency.
