Technician II, Powertrain Prototype Build (MGB)

Position Summary

We are seeking a Technician II to support the Manufacturing Garage Build (MGB) team in the assembly, debugging, validation, and documentation of prototype and pre-production powertrain systems. This role will support engineering development programs through hands-on work with electric drive units, motors, transmissions, inverters, and related subsystems. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical assembly experience, the ability to troubleshoot complex systems, and experience working in prototype, R&D, or low-volume manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities
Build prototype and development powertrain assemblies following engineering requirements and work instructions.
Perform mechanical assembly, disassembly, inspection, and rework of electric drive unit components.
Support motor, transmission, rotor, stator, inverter, and complete drive unit builds.
Execute torque-critical operations and verify assembly quality requirements.
Assist engineers with prototype evaluations and product investigations.
Troubleshoot assembly issues and support root cause analysis activities.
Support validation activities including leak testing, electrical checks, dimensional inspections, and verification testing.
Complete build records, inspection documentation, and traceability requirements.
Utilize Jira and other business systems to manage work assignments and document completed work.
Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Test & Validation, and Supply Chain teams.
Maintain compliance with safety, PPE, and EHS requirements.
Support onboarding and training of team members as needed.
Required Qualifications
Associate degree in Manufacturing, Automotive Technology, Mechanical Technology, or equivalent experience.
3+ years of experience in automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, R&D, prototype, or development environments.
Experience performing mechanical assembly and troubleshooting.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, and assembly documentation.
Experience using precision assembly tools and torque-controlled fastening systems.
Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with electric vehicles, drive units, motors, transmissions, battery systems, or related powertrain components.
Experience in prototype build or low-volume manufacturing environments.
Familiarity with Jira, MES, PLM, or similar manufacturing tracking systems.
Experience with leak testing, electrical verification, and inspection processes.
Basic understanding of root cause analysis methodologies.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in a laboratory or manufacturing environment for extended periods.
Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
