Job Summary:


General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world’s leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.


General Atomics Inertial Fusion Technology (IFT) division designs, manufactures and characterized first-of-a-kind precision components in support of the national labs, fusion and science technologies. Components are manufactured and measured on a variety of highly specialized and precise equipment and are often millimeter in scale with micron-sized features and tolerances.


We currently have an opening for a Technician in our Inertial Fusion Technology (IFT) division within the Energy group.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


+ Operates specialized measurement equipment requiring knowledge of processes; including micro manipulators, measuring microscopes, helium leak detectors, X-ray equipment, etc.

+ Ability to follow clean room protocols while performing daily responsibilities.

+ Handles and measured extremely small parts that range in size from millimeters to micron size.

+ Make detailed observations on the measurement processes. Document findings for internal staff

+ Perform production assembly for target fabrication under general instruction from scientist staff.

+ Must have the capability to perform complex assignments and follow work instructions with little to no direction. Executes assigned set of production operations to meet schedule or complex experimental functions.

+ Supports research, development, fabrication, and testing of complex laboratory and experimental equipment/products such as but limited to, vacuum systems, cryogenic systems, specialized mechanical test systems, complex electrochemical systems, electrical/electronic control, and measuring systems.

+ Utilizes schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to determine the method or procedure for the assembly of complex systems included vacuum hardware and electrical cabling.

+ Ability and willingness to handle hazardous materials (in the context of performing coating, handling samples for metrology, processing and shipping, and equipment maintenance) following materials safety protocols defined by federal and state regulations and GA work procedures.

+ Develop solutions to complex problems that occur, including assisting in the design of specialized components. May perform the design of moderately complex equipment.

+ Initiate and is responsible for the procurement of standard materials, services, and parts required for tests and equipment and provides the necessary liaison in the work area.

+ Work safely under established operating procedures and practices.

+ Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:


+ Typically requires associate's degree or equivalent with two or more years of experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.

+ Proficient in computer operations and applications pertinent to the field.

+ Analytical ability to interpret detailed instructions, drawings, and specifications.

+ Able to work in a cleanroom lab environment requiring extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting to 50 lbs.

+ Competencies to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.

+ Ability to diagnose complex mechanical/electrical problems and find practical solutions.

+ Communication skills are necessary to write and record precise information and submit reports.

+ Special skills and expertise to use complex equipment or experimental techniques.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
