JOB SUMMARY Sizer School seeks a creative, collaborative, and student-centered Technology & Engineering Teacher to teach students in grades 7-12. The teacher will develop and teach engaging, hands-on courses that introduce students to engineering design, technology, digital design, computer-aided design (CAD), fabrication, and related digital tools. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys helping young people move from an idea to a design, prototype, test, revision, and finished product. Courses should give students opportunities to solve authentic problems, create original work, learn through experimentation, and understand how technology and engineering affect people, communities, and the environment. The program will be aligned with the Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering (STE) Curriculum Framework, particularly the Technology/Engineering standards, as well as relevant Massachusetts Digital Literacy and Computer Science (DLCS) standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (include but are not limited to) The Technology & Engineering Teacher will: Design and teach technology and engineering courses for students in grades 7-12. Develop curriculum aligned with Massachusetts Technology/Engineering and Digital Literacy and Computer Science standards. Teach students to use the engineering design process to identify problems, establish criteria and constraints, generate possible solutions, develop models and prototypes, test solutions, analyze results, and revise their work. Create hands-on design challenges that require students to apply mathematics, science, technology, creativity, and problem-solving. Introduce students to computer-aided design (CAD) and other digital design tools appropriate for middle and high school students. Teach students to create and interpret sketches, diagrams, scaled drawings, orthographic drawings, models, and other representations of design solutions. Provide opportunities for students to design and construct prototypes using appropriate materials, tools, equipment, and digital fabrication technologies available at the school. Teach the safe and responsible use of classroom tools, equipment, materials, computers, and fabrication technologies. Incorporate digital art and design where appropriate, including graphic design, digital modeling, visual communication, and creative applications of technology. Introduce students to basic principles of computer science, computational thinking, coding, or software design when appropriate to course content and student projects. Help students understand how systems work and how individual components interact within technological and engineered systems. Teach students to evaluate competing solutions using evidence, testing results, cost, usability, sustainability, and other appropriate criteria. Ask students to consider the social, environmental, economic, and ethical implications of technologies and engineering decisions. Provide opportunities for students to document and communicate their design process through notebooks, portfolios, presentations, demonstrations, and exhibitions of student work. Develop projects that allow students to work both independently and collaboratively. Connect technology and engineering projects to real-world problems, careers, and applications. Collaborate with teachers in science, mathematics, art, humanities, and other disciplines to develop interdisciplinary learning opportunities. Differentiate instruction so that students with a range of academic backgrounds, learning needs, and prior experience can successfully participate in technology and engineering courses.
