POSITION: Technology Assistant-Help Desk (12) (FVEC) 40 hours/week Grade 5 Effective: July 1, 2026

2026 - 2027 Grade 5, Step 1, Salary $27.62/hour ESPA agreement linked here.

ASSIGNMENT: 12 Month

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This position involves overseeing and supporting building and district technology systems and hardware; assisting the Technology Services Supervisor in supporting, troubleshooting, maintaining hardware and software inventory, and related tasks. There is considerable contact with students, staff and parents in supporting classroom instruction. Will also respond to community inquiries. The Technology Assistant's main responsibility will be to provide help desk service to staff and students. This includes supporting and troubleshooting computer and tablet hardware, desktop and mobile operating systems, registration process, routine maintenance of computer, tablet hardware and software, telephones, and other technology systems. May supervise and assist students under the direction of certified staff and perform related support tasks. Initiative, courtesy and tactfulness are essential to this position as well as a willingness to become knowledgeable with a variety of software and applications.

An employee in this position works within clearly established systems and procedures, must exhibit organizational skills and exercise independent judgment and confidentiality in the performance of duties. The Tech Assistant/Help Desk individual must exhibit initiative and embrace a collaborative team approach to accomplish the mission of the district.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have or obtain State and NCLB Approved Paraprofessional designation in accordance with Illinois State Board of Education requirements.
  • Must have physical ability to lift/move supplies, materials and office equipment up to 40 lbs.
  • Must sit at workstation for extended periods of time and/or move frequently from workstation to various other areas of building.
  • Must organize and prioritize workflow.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers, office practices, procedures and office equipment.
  • Must project a positive image of the district to students, staff and parents as well as exhibit a positive employee attitude.
  • Must demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills, and communicate clearly and respectfully with students, staff, parents, visitors and the general public.
  • Must have awareness of a variety of student needs including physical and social emotional needs.
  • Must be able to access all electrical/computer connections.
  • Must possess mechanical/technical aptitude, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and perform software upgrades and maintenance.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS:

  1. Supports the overall technical operations of the school and district including the overall technology infrastructure (hardware/software) and classrooms by, but not limited to:
  • installing and upgrading various types of equipment and software
  • maintaining the technology help desk for the school
  • performing equipment maintenance
  • assisting students and staff with hardware and/or software
  • preparing and distributing technology hardware at the school
  • troubleshooting hardware/software problems
  • utilize and maintain online help desk to track and report support issues
  • assisting in implementation of networking procedures
  • assisting in implementation and enforcement of network and information management security protocols
  • maintaining building supplies and hardware/software inventories
  • recognizing system incompatibilities and application errors
  • presenting new digital and online resources to students, staff and parents
  • supporting district wide implementations, events, supporting other buildings as needed, and supporting students and parents throughout the communities.

  • providing individualized or group instruction in the use of technology hardware and online digital resources
  • supervising students
  1. Updating knowledge and skills in the use of technology.

  2. Participating in appropriate professional development activities in order to enhance job performance.

  3. Cultivating and developing inclusive and equitable working relationships with staff, students and community members.
