TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATE 

HOURS: Full-Time (37.50 hours per week)

BARGAINING UNIT: SEIU / PAY GRADE: G = $24.0466

LOCATION:  Louis Stokes Wing (TechCentral)

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for assisting patrons in Public Services or staff other department(s) with technology needs. Must be able to travel to and work at the Main Library (downtown) and all neighborhood branches. Must strive to meet the library’s mission and exemplify its core values.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three years’ experience working with the public. Experience in a public library or public sector preferred.
  • Three years’ experience teaching, training, and/or troubleshooting information systems, emerging technology, adaptive technology, devices, applications, software programs, etc. required.
  • One year creating materials for instruction and/or programming preferred.
  • Knowledge of design and fabrication software preferred.

 

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:

  • Basic to intermediate level Microsoft Office (70% pass score).
  • Customer service (70% pass score)
  • Demonstrated computer skills including, but not limited to computer and mobile operating systems, internet browsing, group meeting platforms and library related databases, systems and software.
  • Knowledge of basic and specialized hardware, software, and technology equipment used for personal, creative and business purposes such as: laptops, devices, Adobe Suite, MS Office Suite.
  • General principles and objectives of information technology systems and programs.
  • Maintain knowledge and skills of various current adaptive and emerging technology to support patron, personal and business needs.
  • Knowledge of intermediate principles and objectives of information technology systems and programs.
  • Familiarity with adult and children instructional design.
  • Experience working for an organization that provides community-based services, preferably in a metropolitan setting.
  • Work as part of a team and work effectively with persons and communities from diverse ages, cultural, social and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure to ensure that written materials prepared are complete, succinct, and free of errors.
  • Use mathematics to solve problems.
  • Experience in a public library or public-sector is preferred

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform intermediate and advanced public service and staff support work such as assisting patrons of all ages, knowledge and skill with materials, technology, services and programs.
  • Schedule, assist, instruct, train and oversee patron and staff use of basic and advanced technology equipment and devices. This includes, but is not limited to the use of windows, MS Office, internet browsing, group meeting platforms and library related databases, systems, software, Makerspace software and equipment, etc.
  • Create promotional, informational, or instructional materials.
  • Plan, implement, and conduct technology training sessions for patrons, staff or groups.
  • Coordinate equipment and room logistics.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Update program listings.
  • Conduct tours, visits, and programs. Participate in community outreach activities and events.
  • Perform routine computer and technology troubleshooting.
  • Create, edit, delete, modify, send, and receive, content, files, materials.
  • Perform routine administrative tasks.
  • May attend meetings, participate in committees or training, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
