SUMTER COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM

TITLE: Technology Director

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in education or technology related fields from an accredited college or university.

Certification and experience necessary to perform the job. Minimum of three (3) years of experience

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

JOB GOAL: To provide district technical support for computer systems, facilitate staff development and teacher training, update and direct technology inventory and budgeting, review and evaluate software and hardware, assist with the implementation of new technologies., and initiate, coordinate, enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain organization's effectiveness and efficiency by managing and supervising the IT Department to ensure optimal performance and continuous availability of all services to authorized users in support of the digital 1:1 program, digital curriculum, and other mission critical operations.
  • Facilitates high-quality professional development to confirm assigned staff are fully equipped to address a broad spectrum of technical issues; prepares, arranges, and conducts a wide variety of hands-on training activities and works with staff members in groups or individually to provide guidance, demonstrate best practices, and refine knowledge and skills.
  • Develop effective communication systems with vendors, school technology coordinators, other district office personnel, and principals, and serve as the primary point of contact for technology and data issues.
  • Assist the designated district and school instructional leader in curriculum evaluation and the implementation of technology into the instructional program.
  • Assist and/or supervise school and district-level personnel designated for data collection, maintenance, and reporting.
  • Work with other central office staff, school leaders, and teachers to integrate technology into the ongoing instructional program for all curriculum areas by identifying strategies and materials and implementing integration activities.
  • Coordinate the preparation of the annual technology budget and any amendments as appropriate.
  • Develop and/or approve and maintain a system to manage district technology contracts, and purchase technology.
  • Actively seek/procure funding for technology.
  • Retain and maintain proper documentation of expenditures associated with technology grants, including purchase orders, invoices, equipment inventories, etc.
  • Supervise current documentation of individual school and district-wide inventory of technology assets.
  • Provide leadership for short- and long-range planning for all district and building-level technology and data initiatives: vision, goals, program objectives/ strategies/ activities, infrastructure, staffing, training, evaluation, budgeting, and collaboration with others.
  • Prepare/submit state and local technology and data reports and grants, lead preparation of school and district technology plans, and submit technology plans in a timely manner.
  • Assist the school technology coordinators, central office staff, and school leaders with implementing the district and the building-level technology plans in accordance with the state of Alabama Technology Plan, the Alabama Professional Development Technology Standards, and other state recommendations and guidelines.
  • Support digital curriculum platforms (e.g., educational software, curriculum websites, digital curriculum content in online repository, etc.).
  • Plan, develop, and implement professional development activities to meet established instructional technology integration needs, computer skills curriculum, data-based decision making, and Alabama Department of Education requirements.
  • Coordinate and supervise technical support, network design and management, network security, and help-desk support for all schools and the central office.
  • Facilitate planning and implementation of local and wide area networks.
  • Coordinate the development of and enforce district policies and procedures governing technology and data issues and network security.
  • Maintain professional growth and competence through professional development as per Board Policy.
  • Complete a training program and continuing education instruction provided by the Alabama Leaders in Education Technology.
  • Satisfactorily complete an orientation program and annual continuing education units.
  • Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary is based on the Sumter County BOE Salary Schedule. Twelve-month position.

EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluating Administrative Personnel.
