Duties

Position Summary:

Tri-Valley CUSD #3 is seeking a visionary and highly skilled Technology Director to oversee and manage our district''s technology department. The ideal candidate will ensure a robust, secure, and modern digital learning environment by coordinating technology use in classrooms , maintaining hardware and software infrastructure , and providing comprehensive training and technical support to district personnel, students, and the community.

Responsibilities include the following:

Department Leadership & Strategic Planning

  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of the technology department.
  • Conduct strategic planning for district technology, including equipment, supplies, and services.
  • Make formal recommendations to the Superintendent concerning the purchase of all district technology equipment.
  • Develop and implement plans for the acquisition, evaluation, and maintenance of hardware, software, and courseware.
  • Lead, support, and evaluate technology support staff who assist teachers and students.

Network Management & Infrastructure

  • Supervise the installation and ongoing maintenance of all district-owned technology equipment.
  • Oversee the troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of computer systems, networks, and hardware district-wide.
  • Supervise the setup, cabling, and hook-up functions for district computer systems.
  • Design, optimize, and maintain the district''s wired and wireless enterprise network architecture to ensure high availability, bandwidth optimization, and redundancy.

Cybersecurity & Data Privacy

  • Securely maintain and handle all technological confidential information for district employees.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor district-wide cybersecurity protocols, including firewall management, threat detection, data encryption, and regular vulnerability assessments to safeguard student and staff data.

Student Information Systems (SIS) & Digital Operations

  • Manage the district website and electronic listservs.
  • Create and maintain user login identifications (user IDs) and login scripts.
  • Serve as the primary administrator for the district''s Student Information System (SIS), overseeing data integrity, software integrations, scheduling, grading modules, and state-mandated reporting compliance (ISBE).

Support, Training & Collaboration

  • Lead a team who provides prompt, courteous technical service and on-site support to teachers, staff, and students.
  • Determine whether a technical problem requires specialized outside assistance or can be resolved in-house.
  • Keep track of hardware inventory, software licenses, service records, and repair parts.
  • Direct the in-service education of all district personnel on district-owned technology.
  • Disseminate technology-related information via news bulletins, electronic mail, and staff meeting presentations.
  • Teaches evening, summer school, or other technology classes for district personnel, students, parents, and taxpayers as directed.
  • Collaborates on, writes, and reviews the district''s technology plan and technology grants.
  • Keep abreast of emerging operational support technologies and industry trends.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent, Principals, or the Board of Education.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor''s degree in information systems, computer science, or a closely related field preferred.
  • Technical Experience: Proven experience building, troubleshooting, and maintaining computers, networks, and related equipment.
  • System Expertise: Proficiency across a variety of operating systems including Windows, Skyward Qmlativ, Macintosh, Google Workspace, Linux, and legacy systems (DOS).
  • Connectivity: Expertise in managing and optimizing DSL, Wireless, and Satellite Internet connections.
  • Planning: Practical experience working within an educational technology plan framework, E-Rate, and grant writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern enterprise network management tools, cybersecurity frameworks, and database structures relating to Student Information Systems (SIS).
  • Communication & Relationships: Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with students, parents, and staff. Must be able to follow basic oral/written instructions and communicate technical terms in an acceptable, user-friendly manner.

Salary/Benefits

  • Salary: Regionally competitive salary, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and certifications. Anticipated range $80,000-$100,000.
  • Pension: Eligibility for the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) or Teachers'' Retirement System (TRS), depending on candidate certification.

Additional Notes

  • Contract Length: 12 months (260 days).
  • Compliance Note: Must maintain a current, annual ISBE-approved District Technology Plan.
  • Employment Requirements: Final candidates will be required to pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check and physical/TB screening in accordance with Illinois school law.
