Technology Support Specialist & School Library

Position Overview: The School Library & Technology Support Specialist is a hybrid, part-time position (29 hours per week) responsible for supporting both the day-to-day operations of the school library media center and providing essential building-level IT support. This role involves fostering a positive reading environment for elementary students, managing library inventory and scheduling, assisting end-users with technical requests via a helpdesk ticketing system, and coordinating Chromebook repairs.

Reports to: Director of Technology / Building Principal

Hours: Part-time (29 hours/week) School Year with additional hours in August and June

Qualifications:

• Associate's degree in a technical field, library media studies, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.
• Experience working with elementary school-aged children (Early Childhood through 5th Grade) preferred.
• Proficiency with Chrome OS and Windows client environments; basic familiarity with network maintenance practices.
• Experience with Google Workspace (including basic Google Apps Administration) and library software (Follett Destiny preferred, though training is available).
• Hardware & Ticketing: Hands-on experience troubleshooting consumer/educational devices and using a helpdesk ticketing workflow.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to maintain high ethical standards and strict confidentiality regarding school district matters.
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities, work independently with minimal supervision, meet deadlines, and stay organized.
• Strong customer service orientation, a collaborative mindset for working alongside school staff, and a creative approach to student engagement.
• Valid driver's license required for travel between district school buildings.

Primary Responsibilities:

Library Services & Operations

• Create and maintain a weekly library schedule for EC-5th grade classrooms; teach foundational library skills, lead book talks, and host story times.
• Handle checking in and out of materials, shelving, processing new items, conducting annual inventories, shelf reading, and maintaining library organization.
• Plan, manage, and market annual book fairs; design creative displays, reading themes, and literacy encouragement activities.
• Provide occasional front office secretarial coverage as needed.

IT Support & Technical Services

• Monitor and respond to helpdesk ticketing system requests; deliver prompt, daily technical support and basic system training to staff and students.
• Coordinate the Chromebook repair process with the district's third-party repair vendor; assist in maintaining an accurate technology asset inventory and documentation.
• Assist with synchronizing information between school software systems (including library automation and Google Admin).
• Work closely with the Director of Technology to coordinate system updates, research efficiency improvements, and provide input on future technology purchases.
• Perform other technology and library-related duties as assigned.
