    Description

    Overview

    Planned Systems International (PSI) is an Enterprise IT services company who focuses on designing, building, securing, and operating cutting-edge software solutions that drive mission success and operational excellence for Federal Government organizations. We are currently seeking a qualified Telecommunications/Cabling Technician to assist with the Operations and Maintenance ("O&M") services for mission-critical Voice Systems across multiple remote sites within the DC Metropolitan Area.

    The Voice Systems encompass an Avaya Aura solution, currently operating on Avaya CM 10.2, that spans multiple buildings. This solution is linked to the Public Switched Telephone Network ("PSTN") through 34 Primary Rate Interfaces (PRI). The on-site Avaya CM Voice System also plays a pivotal role, facilitating nationwide appointment scheduling and status update communications.

    Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

    The position of Telecommunications/Cabling Technician is fulfilled by a highly skilled and seasoned expert proficient in all aspects of network and telecommunications cabling. This includes tasks such as installation, maintenance, and repair of both fiber and copper cables, as well as associated components. The Telecommunications and Cabling Technician should possess up-to-date certifications in Data and Voice Cable, encompassing both copper and fiber optic cables. Their core responsibility involves supporting the customer with routine system administration tasks.

    • Offer comprehensive technical assistance spanning telecommunications equipment, installation, and administration.
    • Showcased expertise in adhering to Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals and Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards, particularly in relation to fire-stops and cable management within healthcare facilities.
    • Formulate and uphold processes, in line with industry norms, for the identification and labeling of voice/data/fiber cable systems.
    • Maintain a comprehensive inventory of all installed infrastructure, in accordance with TIA/EIA, TIA 1179, and BICSI industry standards. This includes comprehensive documentation and schematics of the voice/data/fiber cable layout.
    • Ensure that all documentation is meticulously completed and submitted.
    • Exhibit exceptional customer service skills, effectively addressing cabling issues through collaboration with clients, vendors, and facility personnel.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Minimum of 3 years of pertinent experience in data networking and cable installation is mandatory.
    • Possession of industry certification in Data and Voice Cable (both copper and fiber optic).
    • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
    • Proficient in Structured Cabling with an in-depth understanding of TIA/EIA 568 standards, particularly TIA 1179 specifications.
    • Aptitude for seamless interaction with customers and colleagues to effectively execute necessary job tasks.
    • Ability to thrive under pressure, manage diverse work assignments concurrently, prioritize tasks, and assume complete accountability for decisions.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Experience working as a DHA contractor or employee.
    • BICSI certification (TECH™, Installer 1 or 2, Technician, or Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD)) is highly desirable.
    • Experience installing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining structured cabling systems in accordance with BICSI standards.
    • Familiarity with telecommunications infrastructure, copper and fiber optic cabling, and network infrastructure best practices.

    Physical Demands

    • General labor involved in cable installation, add/drop, etc.
