Description
Performs responsible technical work overseeing the Public Safety Communications operators.
Work is performed under regular supervision. Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel.
Essential Functions
Supervises the operation of the communications center.
Plans, and coordinates training for dispatchers.
Revise internal procedures related to the Communications Division.
Develops new programs and procedures in accordance with guidelines.
Prepares work schedule for personnel.
Reviews daily false alarm data and monitors number of false alarms per location.
Inspects daily E-911 call for data accuracy and reports findings to telephone company.
Checks all communications equipment to ensure proper operation and reports problems to the appropriate service contractors.
Inventories and orders division supplies.
Functions as a Communication Operator II on occasion due to personnel shortages.
Takes telephone calls concerning complaints, relays information to appropriate personnel and makes necessary reports.
Performs related task as required.
General Knowledge of procedures and regulations relating to the department.
Thorough knowledge of the technical and administrative aspects of Communications Division.
Ability to write clearly and concisely.
General knowledge of the geography of the City and location of the important buildings.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the supervisors.
Co-workers, contractors, cooperating agencies and the general public.
Ability to employ team oriented problem solving techniques and to be an open motivational manager committed to continuous quality improvement.
Qualifications
Any Combinations of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in telecommunication systems.
Additional Requirements
Ability to obtain State Dispatchers Certification, VCIN Certification and Instructors Certificate within one (1) year from the date of employment.
Ability to work in an office environment.
