We are currently hiring one, possibly two Field Telecommunications Technicians to join us in support of a number of U.S. Naval Base locations. This position will be 100% onsite at these locations.

Location: Applicants must be local to the San Diego County area and willing to primarily work and travel with our teams across various Naval Base locations, including Naval Base Coronado, Point Loma, and San Diego Naval Base.

Compensation: This work falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA), and this will be hourly in accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act.

The Service Contract Act base wage determination is $33.75 per hour with an eligibility to receive a Health and Welfare payment of $5.09 per hour, up to 40 hours a week.

Note: The H&W payment applies only to the first 40 hours worked per week and does not apply to any overtime or double-time hours.

Job Overview:
You will be responsible to receive daily tasks that include installing copper and fiber to the desktop ports and to troubleshoot outages.

Key Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Install, rearrange, and maintain inside wiring infrastructure, including copper and fiber optic cabling across all service levels.
  • Splice, rearrange, and reconnect wiring at poles, underground facilities, or building terminals.
  • Connect, disconnect, reconnect, test, repair, and maintain customer-provided voice and data equipment.
  • Perform diagnostics on telecommunications systems to identify and resolve service issues.
  • Interpret service orders accurately to fulfill customer and network requirements.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all work performed, system changes, and materials used.
  • Assess and evaluate customer communication needs during service calls.
  • Climb poles and work aloft using ladders or bucket trucks to access installation points.
  • Move and lift tools, ladders, cable reels, and test equipment as needed for daily operations.
  • Perform light excavation when required for cable installation or maintenance.
  • Communicate proactively with customers to explain work activities and notify them of any service disruptions or outages.
  • Conduct temporary Central Office frame rearrangements during after-hours or unattended periods.
  • Identify and meet individual customer requirements during provisioning or repair visits.
Qualifications:
  • Structured Cabling Expertise: Must have related work experience and a thorough understanding of structured cabling systems, termination equipment, test equipment, industry testing standards, and approved test procedures.
  • Fiber Optic Proficiency: Proven experience in fiber optic splicing techniques, including attaching connectors and splicing both inside and outside plant fiber optic cables.
  • Testing & Certification: Ability to perform fiber and copper cable test procedures, analyze test results, and certify installations to meet industry standards.
  • Troubleshooting Skills: Technically competent to diagnose issues in non-compliant cable systems and recommend corrective actions to bring systems to standard.
  • Safety Compliance: Must adhere to all established safety practices and procedures.
  • Tools & Equipment: Must possess and bring personal hand tools including punch downs, crimpers, power drills, etc.
  • Work Schedule: Available to work Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with potential overtime and/or weekend shifts as needed.
  • Travel & Transportation: Successful candidates must be punctual, must have and maintain reliable transportation and be willing to travel as required by project demands.
  • Driver's License:Successful candidates will be required to maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Security Clearance:Successful candidates will be subject to successfully obtain, complete and maintain a favorable Tier 3 (NACLC & ANACI) Government Secret Security Clearance and to include a favorable Tier 1 (formerly known as a National Agency Check Inquiries (NACI) background check and associative suitability.
  • Drug Screen & MVR:Successful candidates will be subject to complete and maintain a successful completion of drug screen and MVR.
  • Communication Skills: Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and be fluent in English.
Preferred:
  • Must be familiar with all NEC Grounding practices.
  • Must understand requirement of EIA/TIA 568 A & B.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit, stand, stoop, and bend for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity in hands, fingers, and arms for reaching, climbing, balancing, and using hand/power tools and controls.
  • Vision abilities must include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolding, or operate lifts safely.
  • Must be capable of safely driving and operating vehicles.
  • Regularly able to lift and transport up to 50 lbs; frequently required to handle equipment weighing up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to move throughout the work environment as needed.
  • Must possess clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
