You will be responsible for evaluating, configuring, integrating, testing, and deploying industrial telematics and IoT devices that power real‑time data collection across construction fleets and equipment.Success in this role requires equal comfort working with device documentation, communication protocols, sensors, serial interfaces, and machine-generated data, as well as software, APIs, databases, and cloud-connected applications. If you enjoy solving problems that span both hardware and software domains, this role offers a unique opportunity to make a direct impact on customer operations.Important: This is not a traditional full‑stack software engineering role, nor is it a hardware design role. You will work extensively with existing industrial IoT and telematics devices, vendor‑specific configuration tools, communication protocols, and edge‑device behavior to ensure reliable data collection and transmission within the AlignOps ecosystem.ResponsibilitiesAnalyze IoT devices, protocols, and machine-generated data to implement customer‑centric solutionsEvaluate hardware and manufacturer documentation to determine product fit and integration opportunitiesConfigure and integrate third‑party IoT hardware into AlignOps platforms for production useDevelop and execute testing strategies, including proof‑of‑concept and validation testingBuild and refine scalable processes for deploying and supporting IoT devices at scaleCollaborate with product owners and engineering teams to meet technical specifications and business requirementsDesign, develop, and optimize software for real‑time data exchange and system performanceWrite and optimize device‑configuration scripts and vendor‑specific logic that control device behavior, power management, reporting intervals, and data collectionBench‑test new device models using serial interfaces (RS‑232/TTL), terminal emulation software, and manufacturer configuration toolsMap, wire, configure, and test integrations with relays, digital and analog sensors, GPS modules, and vehicle power systemsTroubleshoot hardware, connectivity, and communication issues at the physical and protocol layers before escalating software‑related issuesOptimize data transmission reliability and performance across cellular and satellite communication networksMaintain high‑quality standards by adhering to engineering best practices and organizational processesStay current with emerging technologies, protocols, and industry advancements in IoT and telematicsSupport cross‑functional teams and contribute to continuous improvement initiativesOther duties as assignedYou May Be a Great Fit If You...You enjoy solving problems that span hardware, firmware, communications protocols, and cloud softwareYou understand serial communications concepts such as TX/RX, baud rates, RS‑232, RS‑485, or TTL interfacesYou have experience troubleshooting physical devices in addition to software systemsYou enjoy investigating why a device is not reporting data as much as analyzing the data once it arrivesYou have worked with commercial telematics, fleet management, GPS tracking, or industrial IoT platformsYou have hands‑on experience configuring devices from vendors such as CalAmp, Suntech, Geotab, Samsara, Teltonika, Digital Matter, Queclink, or similar industrial IoT providersYou are comfortable working within hardware‑specific configuration environments, vendor tools, and proprietary scripting or rules enginesYou appreciate the challenge of optimizing real‑world device behavior within the constraints of power consumption, network availability, and hardware capabilitiesQualifications5+ years of experience in software development with embedded systems or closely related fieldsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experienceStrong understanding of embedded systems concepts (e.g., state machines, RTOS, event‑driven programming)Experience working with IoT, telematics, GPS systems, or machine‑to‑machine communicationProficiency in Python or similar programming languages and familiarity with relational databases (e.g., MySQL)Experience optimizing real‑time data transmission, particularly over cellular networksStrong analytical, problem‑solving, and critical thinking skillsHigh attention to detail with the ability to manage complex technical evaluationsAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environmentCustomer‑focused mindset with a commitment to delivering impactful solutionsThis is a full‑time in‑office position located in Indianapolis, IN.
