Telematics Technician

The opportunity 

The Telematics Technician is responsible for the installation and technical support of telematics trackers across all types of equipment in North America. The role includes hands-on installation, training local personnel, and providing technical guidance to ensure seamless and qualitative telematics integration.

Additionally, the Telematics Technician supports other projects, workshops, and data/documentation initiatives as required (depending on the workload and the availability to travel). This position reports directly to the Fleet Maintenance Manager.

What success looks like

  • Telematics trackers installed efficiently and correctly across all equipment types.

  • Local teams trained and capable of independent installations.

  • Continuous improvement of installation processes, tools, and documentation.

  • Smooth integration of telematics solutions at OEM sites and within operations.

  • Timely support for telematics technical issues minimizing operational disruptions.

  • Contribution to other projects, workshops, and data/documentation initiatives supporting organizational efficiency.

A snapshot of what you will be doing here:

  • Install and support telematics systems across a variety of equipment and locations.

  • Partner with OEMs to integrate telematics solutions at the factory level for new assets.

  • Train local teams on installation processes and develop guides, checklists, and training materials.

  • Provide feedback to improve installation procedures, tools, and documentation.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve telematics hardware and integration issues.

  • Travel to workshops and OEM sites to support installations and deployments (up to 75%).

  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment with operational and technical requirements.

  • Support additional workshop activities and technical projects as needed, including documentation of processes and data.

Who we are looking for someone who:

  • Technical Expertise & Troubleshooting: Strong knowledge of telematics hardware, installation, integration, and independent problem resolution, including automotive electrical systems, wiring diagrams, and vehicle power architectures.

  • Hands-On & Field Skills: Practical skills with equipment, wiring, electronics, and automotive electrical components; comfortable working in workshops, field sites, and diverse environments worldwide.

  • Training & Knowledge Transfer: Teach and guide local teams to perform installations independently; prepare clear documentation and instructional materials.

  • Problem-Solving & Process Improvement: Analyze issues and implement actionable improvements; optimize installation procedures and workflows proactively.

  • Communication & Collaboration: Communicate technical instructions and feedback clearly; coordinate effectively with internal teams and OEMs.

  • Project & Time Management: Prioritize tasks, balance installations with other project support, track progress, document outcomes, and ensure follow-up.

  • Adaptability & Travel: Comfortable with frequent and/or long-term travel and adapting to varied working environments.
