Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of Medicare billing in a physician office or third-party billing company preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience in payment posting, rejections and denials, account reconciliation and following up on aged accounts.
  • Experience working with insurances, private carriers, HMOs, Medicare, and Medicaid.
  • Knowledge of benefit investigation including obtaining eligibility information, authorizations, and referrals.
  • Experience with CPT, ICD10, Microsoft Office Suite.

Job Description

The Accounts Receivable Representative is responsible for collecting from their assigned payer and ensuring all protocols and established billing guidelines are met. Follows up with payer to dispute denied claims as necessary.

Essential Functions

  1. Researches and corrects rejections, denials, and aged receivables.
  2. Ensures that all payer accounts are billed appropriately and meet all regulatory and compliance requirements
  3. Establishes relationships with assigned payer regarding billing and collection.
  4. Ensures routine billing tasks follow prescribed procedures and protocol.
  5. Maintains established goals as set forth by the department.
  6. Maintains knowledge of regulatory bodies regarding compliance issues and changes.
  7. Maintains up to date billing knowledge of insurance carriers and MAR policies to be a resource for patients and other departments.
  8. Act as customer service representative in person or by telephone for any patient questions about their account in addition to corresponding with Payers.
  9. Work overtime as needed.
  10. Travel to other MAR locations as needed.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical and Cognitive Demands

  • This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing may be required. This would require the ability to occasionally lift files, bend, stoop, crouch, reach, and stand on a stool as necessary.
