TheUniversity of New Mexico invites applications for a part-time instructorposition in the Department of Native American Studies.

The part-time instructorwill teach undergraduate andor graduate courses in-person and online on asemester-by-semester basis.

Part-time instructors need to be knowledgeable on avariety of Native American Studies topics and subjects such as educationsovereignty self-determination philosophy Native Nation buildingIndigenouscommunity building history law andor related areas.

Part-time instructorswill be paid on each course taught in the semester and payment will followstandard rates in the College of Arts & Sciences.

We anticipate hiringAdjunct Faculty to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters.

Anticipated openings will be for Adjuncts who can teach courses in a broad range of subject areas including but not limited to the subject areas covered in the following UNM courses

NATV 1150 Introduction in Native American Studies· NATV 2110 Socio-Political Concepts in Native America· NATV 2315 Indigenous Language Revitalization and Community Renewal· NATV 2140 Research Issues in Native America· NATV 326 Tribal Gaming · NATV 436 Environmental Ethics and Justice in Native America· NATV 305 Indigenous Self-Determination in Education· NATV 474 Seminar Applying Traditions of Native American Philosophy

The Department of Native American Studies NAS is an interdisciplinary academic department committed to Indigenous academic scholarship and research excellence.

The department currently offers a doctor of philosophy Ph.D. master of arts M.A. bachelor of arts B.A. and a minor degree.

NASs mission is excellence in educating all students and the public about the Native experience of Indigenous peoples with significant attention given our complex history and intercultural heritage of New Mexico and the United States.

A second goal is building a department that collaborates with Native communities and engages students in Native NationIndigenous community building.

Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels courses on the current course schedule and demand driven by graduation requirements.

Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses.

Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the Chair of the Department of Native American Studies
