Temp – Senior/Program Coordinator, Nutrition, Global Growth & Opportunity

As the employment agency hiring temporary workers to be assigned to the Gates Foundation, we are responsible for direct hiring and seeking candidates for the following temporary role at the Foundation.

The Global Growth & Opportunity division works to catalyze sustainable, transformative change in response to inequities and market failures, realize the potential of untapped markets, and advance the economic and social benefits of including everyone. The division focuses on Agricultural Development, Inclusive Financial Systems, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Nutrition, Global Education, and Digital Public Infrastructure.

Within Global Growth & Opportunity, the Nutrition Program Strategy Team focuses on addressing micronutrient deficiencies at the population level through the development, implementation, and scaling of large-scale food fortification programs. The team works with public- and private-sector partners to generate actionable data and insights, support countries in program design and evaluation, provide technical assistance to food producers, advance innovations, improve quality assurance, and strengthen public-sector standards and regulations.

Your Role

The Senior Program Coordinator sits on the Strategy, Planning and Management team and supports investments across the Nutrition Program Strategy Team. We are seeking someone who is comfortable with ambiguity, flexible, and energized by taking on new areas of work.

You will coordinate, develop, and manage a portfolio of investments, including the implementation and maintenance of activities throughout the lifecycle of grants and contracts. You will partner closely with Program Officers and Grants and Contract Services while supporting budget planning, financial analysis, financial reporting, portfolio management, and operational processes.

You will also serve as a primary investment-process contact for grantee and vendor initiation, reporting, and closure, while coordinating across multiple internal teams throughout the investment lifecycle.

This temporary Senior Program Coordinator role will support a significant portfolio of investments for the Nutrition Data and R&D teams. The assignment also includes consolidated portfolio-level reporting for leadership and ownership of CRM and annual-planning processes for the Nutrition portfolio.

Because this is a six-month interim assignment, you will need to onboard quickly, prioritize independently, and leave the portfolio well documented for the team at the end of the assignment.

What You'll Do

• Act as a subject matter authority on investment tools, systems, and templates, and provide training and coaching to program-team members and external partners when needed.
• Partner with investment makers by supporting the development, management, and maintenance of a portfolio of investments.
• Perform initial investment due diligence, including collecting portfolio data, identifying trends, and managing timelines.
• Conduct portfolio analysis, identify risks, provide perspective on portfolio performance, and deliver detailed readouts to leadership.
• Build and maintain consolidated portfolio dashboards and readouts that translate individual investment data into a clear view of overall Nutrition portfolio health for program and Foundation leadership.
• Lead CRM administration for the Nutrition portfolio, including data quality, training, troubleshooting, and process support.
• Coordinate the team's annual-planning activities, including forecasting, budget cycles, and recurring portfolio reviews.
• Provide in-depth project-management support to investment teams, including tracking timelines, deliverables, communications, and change-management activities.
• Support the development of nontechnical project frameworks and contribute to special projects.
• Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including grantees, partners, Finance, Legal, and Grants and Contract Services.
• Lead implementation and change efforts for the team, including developing new processes, sharing standard practices, analyzing workloads, and providing business updates.
• Maintain file organization, team sites, data, records, and systems for tracking, monitoring, and prioritizing tasks and projects.
• Support an inclusive culture by modeling collaborative behaviors and raising issues in a timely manner with the appropriate partners.

Your Experience:

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent demonstrated experience, preferably in business administration or program management.
• Experience in project management, portfolio management, financial reporting, nonprofit work, or a related industry.
• Practical understanding of the investment lifecycle and related rules, mechanisms, regulations, policies, processes, and practices.
• Experience building portfolio-level reports or dashboards.
• Proficiency in CRM platforms, investment systems, or similar tools, along with the ability to learn new internal systems quickly.
• Comfort using AI tools, such as Copilot or Claude, to support drafting, synthesis, and reporting, along with openness to creating and adopting new AI-enabled workflows.
• Experience in financial planning and budgeting.
• A learning mindset and comfort navigating uncertainty, with the ability to ramp up quickly on new systems and move work forward without every input being finalized.
• An optimistic and adaptable approach to shifting priorities, new tools, and competing demands.
• Ability to onboard quickly and work independently within a defined, time-bound assignment. Previous interim, contract, or fast-ramp experience is a plus.
• Grantmaking knowledge and previous Senior Program Coordinator experience at the Gates Foundation are strongly preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly with team members, Deputy Directors, managers, and internal and external partners.
• Ability to learn new areas quickly and determine what is needed next without requiring expertise in the programmatic content.
• Ability to build trust, influence individuals and teams without formal authority, and support collaboration and conflict resolution across stakeholders.
• Ability to recognize complexity and assess risks and alternatives while working with competing requirements and incomplete information.
• Understanding of investment rules, regulations, policies, processes, and practices, with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Experience working across investment-making systems, including INVEST, Excel, SharePoint, and other web-based applications.
• Basic SharePoint administration skills, including metadata tagging, document-view creation, archiving, and creating and maintaining confidential files.
