Temporary Accountant
We are partnering with a dynamic organization in the Grand Rapids area seeking a Temporary Accountant to support the accounting team during a period of transition and increased workload. This role offers an excellent opportunity for candidates who are immediately available and enjoy working in fast-paced environments.
The Temporary Accountant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close, and assisting with reconciliation and reporting efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform balance sheet and account reconciliations
- Assist with month-end close activities, including journal entries and accruals
- Analyze financial data and investigate variances
- Maintain general ledger activity and ensure accuracy of financial records
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed
- Prepare and review financial reports and supporting schedules
- Assist with cleanup of backlog or incomplete accounting records
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve discrepancies and improve processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 1–5+ years of accounting experience (staff accountant or similar)
- Strong understanding of general ledger, balance sheet and reconciliation processes
- Experience supporting month-end close
- Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, vlookups, or similar functions)
- Experience with accounting systems such as QuickBooks, SAP, NetSuite, or similar is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience in a contract or interim accounting role
- Exposure to multi-entity or high-volume environments
