Temporary Bremner Editing Center Assistant

Students in the School of Journalism visit the Bremner Center for one-on-one help with editing their writing, including assignments, cover letters and application essays. They must be finished with a draft before they come in: The help is with revision and editing, not the initial writing process (though there is often lots of discussion about that as well). The assistant will work with student writers step by step through a piece of writing, pointing out what should be changed and explaining changes to correct mistakes and structural issues. 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following skills:  

• Thorough knowledge of how good professional/journalistic writing is structured, what it needs to include and what it should not include 
• Familiarity with Associated Press style and common journalism and strategic communication writing formats 
• Ability to explain why things are wrong or need to be changed. 
• Ability to focus on clear, correct, concise writing.
