Position Title: Temporary Custodian Term of Employment: Full-Time End Date: TBD Reports To: Principal or Assistant Principal Pay Information: NC01 General Statement of Job Under general supervision performs a variety of general custodial and light groundskeeping work in the care and maintenance of assigned school buildings and facilities. Work involves sweeping, mopping, and using vacuum cleaners to clean floors; washing walls, woodwork, and fixtures; and policing buildings to empty trash receptacles and pick up debris, etc. Work involves the transferring of equipment, custodial instrument repair, and audiovisual. Essential Job Functions Scrubs, dusts, sweeps, mops, vacuums, waxes, and polishes floors in rooms, hallways, and closets. Washes windows, woodwork, walls, and other surfaces. Scrubs and cleans restroom fixtures. Replenishes tissue, towels, and soap in restrooms, kitchens, and classroom facilities. Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes. Empties wastebaskets and other refuse receptacles. Locks and unlocks doors. Sorts and stores material for recycling programs. Makes minor repairs to furniture or facilities. Reports to supervisor damages or needed repairs requiring outside attention. Turns heating and air conditioning equipment on and off. Performs routine maintenance on heating and air conditioning systems. Unload and store supplies and deliveries. Performs related work as required. Performs other duties as deemed appropriate and assigned by the supervisor. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment. Some knowledge of procedures to operate heating and air conditioning equipment. Skill in the use of small equipment used in routine cleaning. Ability to maintain positive working relations. Ability to understand and follow simple oral or written directions. Minimum Training and Experience Some experience in housekeeping. Must possess a valid North Carolina drivers license. High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Must be physically able to operate vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers, brooms, mops, leaf blowers, etc. Must be physically able to lift up to a minimum of 50 pounds. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to push, pull, and carry or otherwise move objects. Requires climbing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motion. May require working on ladders. Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using janitorial equipment. Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as janitorial equipment. Must have minimal levels of eye, hand, foot coordination. Requires the ability to talk and hear: Talking (expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words); Hearing (perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Physical Demand Requirements Physical demand requirements are for medium work.
