Position Summary

DuPage High School District 88 is seeking a creative, organized and detail-oriented Communications Specialist to support the district's communications and community engagement efforts. The Communications Specialist will help tell the stories of District 88 by covering school events through taking photos and writing preview/recap articles or write-ups. This position plays a key role in showcasing student achievements, staff accomplishments, programs and events in/on the district's website, electronic newsletter, social media platforms and other communication materials.

Detail of Responsibilities

Tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Attend and cover school, district and community events during and outside of regular business hours as needed.
  • Capture high-quality photographs of students, staff, programs, activities and special events.
  • Write engaging preview/recap articles or write-ups for the district's website, electronic newsletter, social media platforms and other communication materials.
  • Interview/contact students, staff, parents/guardians, alumni and community members as needed to gather information and develop stories.
  • Monitor district events and activities to identify storytelling opportunities that highlight the district's mission, strategic priorities and achievements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Community Relations.

Qualifications

  • Experience in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field preferred.
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong photography skills and experience using digital cameras and photo editing software.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between district locations and events.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to cover events.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in a school environment.

Work Environment

Hours: The position might require evening and weekend assignments to support school activities, performances, athletic events, and community engagement opportunities. The weekly hours and times worked will fluctuate based on district activities. The position is expected to average approximately 10 hours per week,

Location: The Communications Specialist will work in office and school settings and regularly attend events throughout the district.

Compensation

$35-40/hour
