In addition to being a fantastic place to work, CDOT offers all temporary employees paid sick leave. Temporary employees accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, capped at 48 hours. This position is not covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins). CDOT offers $19.29/hour for the Temporary General Labor I. The majority of CDOT's temporary positions work 40 hours per week with the opportunity for overtime.

Description of Job: About the Position The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is looking for a candidate to work at our Aurora facilities. This position will perform a variety of general maintenance activities and cleaning to maintain the facilities. Major duties and responsibilities:
Work Environment: Your Winter schedule will primarily be 6:00 am - 2:30 pm work hours, Monday-Friday Your Summer Schedule will primarily be 6:00 am - 4:30 pm work hours, Monday - Thursday Travel required during work hours throughout Metro Denver/Front Range Required to operate CDOT vehicles Exposure to loud noise Exposure to fumes, odors, gasses, dusts, etc., that may affect breathing, eyes, and skin Required to operate CDOT vehicles Required to lift up to 50 lbs Occasionally exert up to 100 lbs of force to move objects Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment, which CDOT provides Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals: propane, cleaning solvents, join filler materials, paint, cement, solvents, graffiti remover, slurry aggregate asphalt, oil, diesel fuel, anti-freeze, window cleaners, batteries, cleaning agents, waxes, gasoline, etc. Required to use ladders and scissor lifts for heights of approximately 10 - 20 to clean light panels inside and outside windows. Required to use small power and hand tools Pavements Stripping Sign Installation Minor equipment repairs Required to work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold) and variable weather conditions Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Minimum Qualifications: No previous education or experience is required. Previous custodial, grounds keeping, and customer service experience, as well as mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn is highly desirable.

A current valid driver license is required for all Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) positions which require operating a state or personal motor vehicle to perform one or more essential functions of the position. Required to perform shift and on-call work. Essential Services Designation - Required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare. New employees are required to attend two weeks of maintenance training in Aurora, while veteran CDOT employees are required to attend training one week out of each year in Aurora.
