General Purpose
This position is responsible for performing general business duties for BED which encompasses improving, maintaining, and repairing BEDs buildings, grounds, automotive fleet, and mail processing activities and assist in stockroom activities.
Union Affiliation: Non-Union
Pay: $25.00 Hourly
Remote Tier 1: Zero (0) days remote/week
Essential Job Functions
Buildings and Grounds
- Performs building and ground maintenance, including, painting, lawn care, planting of shrubs, trees, and flowers, shoveling snow, and mowing at Pine Street, Gas Turbine and Winooski One Hydro andsubstations.
- Performs a variety of other labor-intensiveduties.
- Perform carpentry repairs on furniture and building structures, including but notlimited to, doors, windows, locks, shelving units, etc. Performs miscellaneous maintenance duties, asnecessary.
- Sets up/tears down auditorium and Spark Space for various dailyevents.
Mail Processing
- Process outgoing mail, including customer billing asnecessary.
- Operate machines and equipment necessary to carry out the functions of the mailroom including, but not limited to, folding machine, stuffing machine and postage meter,etc.
- Handles Daily Payment Processing data, including but not limited to; cash and check payments, etc. that are brought to thebank.
- Opens the mail and drop boxpayments.
- Process dead mail returned by the PostOffice.
Stockroom
- Assist in the exchange of rubber protective equipment, as per Section 20 of the BED Accident PreventionManual.
- Responsible for maintaining clear access to contaminated storage area perVOSHA requirements.
- Responsible to see that the warehouses are locked and secure at alltimes.
- Maintain inventory and garage bay areas, including, but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, dusting,etc.
- Running parts/supplies out to field personnel asneeded
- Assist with making inventory labels for incomingmaterial.
- Assist with duties related to preparing and shipping out items via Fed-x, UPS, andFreight.
- Assist with disposal of salvage materials in propermanner.
- Assist with receiving, unloading, and accounting for material purchased and supplied toBED.
- Assist in conducting weekly and annual inventorycounts.
Non-Essential Job Functions:

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

- High school diploma, Adult Education or equivalent.
- Minimum One (1) year experience in building maintenance environment - preferred
- Experience operating office machinery preferred.
- Working knowledge of personal computers using the internet and Outlook
- Knowledge of materials and equipment associated with an electric utility preferred.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Vermont drivers license required.
- Ability to operate related tools and equipment required.
- Must be tactful, courteous, and able to get along well with co-workers and the public.
- Must possess good communication skills, be able to follow oral and written directions, have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and how to solve problems.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions required.
- Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.
- Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.
