Temporary Help Desk Technician
Pay Rate: $20.00/hour
Location: Schenectady, NY Area (On-site)
Employment Type: Temporary (Approximately 1 Month during August and September)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
License: Valid driver's license required
Education: Degree or coursework in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred
Skills: Basic knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and computer hardware required
Our client is seeking a Temporary Help Desk Technician to support its Information Technology team during the summer. This approximately 1-month-long assignment is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on IT experience in a professional environment.
The Help Desk Technician will assist with computer deployments, hardware and software installation, troubleshooting, inventory management, and a variety of technology projects. This role is ideal for someone with a strong technical aptitude, excellent customer service skills, and an interest in building a career in Information Technology.
Responsibilities of the Temporary Help Desk Technician will include:
- Configure, image, deploy, and update desktop computers, laptops, Chromebooks, tablets, and other technology devices.
- Install, upgrade, and troubleshoot operating systems and software applications.
- Provide first-level technical support for hardware, software, printers, and peripheral devices.
- Assist with the setup, relocation, and maintenance of office technology equipment.
- Perform basic network troubleshooting under the guidance of senior IT staff.
- Replace or upgrade computer components, including memory, hard drives, keyboards, monitors, and other peripherals.
- Maintain accurate inventory records, asset tags, and technical documentation.
- Prepare, organize, clean, and stage equipment for deployment or surplus.
- Respond to help desk requests in a timely, professional manner.
- Assist with technology projects and IT initiatives.
- Follow all technology policies, security procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications for the role of Temporary Help Desk Technician:
- Degree or coursework in information technology, computer science, or a related field preferred.
- Previous help desk, technical support, or customer service experience is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and computer hardware.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve common technical issues.
- Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with Chromebook management and device imaging is a plus.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Valid driver's license required.
