Temporary Instructor of Voice (Academy)

The Instructor of Voice will provide instruction in voice through a combination of private lessons, classroom teaching, studio classes, coachings, and performance preparation. This appointment supports the Voice Area by developing students' vocal technique, musicianship, artistry, diction, and performance skills across a broad range of vocal styles and repertoire while fostering a creative, collaborative, and supportive learning environment. The instructor may teach students in the classical voice, popular music, jazz, songwriting, and music theater programs at Interlochen Arts Academy. Working closely with colleagues across the Voice area, the Instructor of Voice will contribute to a comprehensive vocal education and provide mentorship and guidance to aspiring artists in a boarding school setting. This is a temporary faculty position for the 2026-27 academic year.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver engaging, student-centered voice instruction that emphasizes healthy vocal technique, musicianship, artistry, and stylistic interpretation.
• Provide individualized mentorship to students, recognizing and supporting diverse learning styles, abilities, and artistic goals.
• Prepare students for performances, auditions, competitions, and college admissions through individualized coaching and constructive feedback.
• Collaborate with collaborative pianists, conductors, and Music Division faculty to support student growth and performance opportunities.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive learning environment where students develop confidence, artistic expression, and professional skills.
• Teach and model healthy vocal habits and age-appropriate vocal development.
• Remain current with developments in vocal pedagogy, performance practice, and repertoire to ensure instruction reflects best practices.
• Participate actively in departmental meetings, faculty initiatives, performances, adjudications, auditions, and committee work as assigned.
• Assist with student recruitment, placement, and evaluation activities as appropriate.
• Comply with Interlochen Center for the Arts policies and procedures and act as a good steward of institutional resources.
• Respect the culture, diversity, and rights of all students, families, faculty, staff, and community members.
• Prioritize responsibilities in a manner consistent with departmental and institutional goals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree in Voice, Vocal Performance, Vocal Pedagogy, Music Education, or a closely related field required; master's degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Demonstrated success teaching voice to students of varying ages, developmental stages, and skill levels.
• Professional performance experience preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in vocal performance and vocal pedagogy.
• Thorough knowledge of healthy vocal production, vocal literature, diction, musicianship, and age-appropriate vocal development.
• Ability to teach and coach students across a broad range of vocal styles and repertoire.
• Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively with faculty, collaborative pianists, conductors, and other artistic colleagues.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to student mentorship and artistic development.
• Genuine passion for education and a commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive learning environment.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, and Calendar).
• Ability to positively contribute to the artistic and educational mission of Interlochen Center for the Arts.
