The Role
A large local municipality is seeking a detail-oriented, experienced Temporary Paralegal to support the Law Department. This contract position will assist supervising city attorneys in handling high-volume public records requests, tort liability claims, and municipal code compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Public Records: Process, log, and redact public records requests in compliance with Louisiana Public Records Law.
- Litigation Support: Assist with municipal liability claims, draft correspondence, prepare legal documents, and organize case files.
- Research & Filing: Conduct legal research, file documents with state and federal courts, and maintain case calendars to ensure all litigation deadlines are met.
- Data Management: Utilize municipal legal databases and case management software to track claims and active litigation.
Qualifications- Education: Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: 3+ years of litigation paralegal experience; previous in-house, insurance defense, or municipal experience is highly preferred.
- Local Knowledge: Solid understanding of Louisiana civil procedure, local government protocols, and public sector operations.
- Skills: Excellent written/verbal communication and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced public agency environment.
