The Town of Erie is growing fast and that growth requires Building Permits. We have a current need for a Permit Technician for temporary support which is expected to last six months. This important position is the first stop for many contractors, developers, and residents. The Permit Technician performs administrative work for the Building Division with considerable independence and acts as an important information resource to all who call, email, or stop in for help. The person in this role provides routine and technical information related to Building Permits and should be comfortable talking with many different types of customers daily. Experience specifically with building or permitting is not necessary, but solid organizational and customer service skills are crucial. All staff are expected to adhere to the Town's mission, vision, and values of T.R.U.E. Position Type: Temporary (6-month assignment) Work Location:?Town Hall - 645 Holbrook St, Erie, Colorado 80516. This position is 100% in-person and not eligible for remote work.? Anticipated Hiring Range:?$24.39/hour -$28.18/hour Work Hours: Business hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm however this temporary role is expected to work three days a week from 8:00am-5:00pm. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides general zoning (setbacks and building height), building and related code information and application forms to permit applicants and the public. Provides guidance in completing various permit applications and forms, making sure applicants understand the permitting process and the necessary information and attachments required to submit an accurate and complete application. Perform over-the-counter permitting for water heaters, reroofs, furnace replacement, etc. Plan review and comment of minor construction documents for basement finishes, fences, decks and accessory structures. May perform minor plan review or assist with larger projects as assigned. Processes permit applications by accepting the application; checking for accuracy and completeness; calculating fees; ensure compliance with architectural standards and guidelines; routing to appropriate review staff; monitoring application progress for status reports and preparing plans and permits for issuance. Assures that policies and procedures are followed in the receipt, routing and processing of permit applications. Issues routine permits, licenses, and other official certifications within scope of authority and responsibility assigned. Maintains accurate and timely records of the permit process; inputs, maintains and compiles a variety of data on permitting activity. Prepares, maintains and stores records, files and logs related to permit issuance and inspections; in an administrative capacity maintains the computerized permit tracking system data entry. Prepares and scans files for electronic and/or records management system processing; helps maintain a variety of building and planning-related records. Update and verify information in the Town's electronic records keeping systems, i.e. general liability insurance, valid contractor's license, and valid State license information that has been filed with the Town. Assists in coordinating the permitting process with building official, inspectors, planners, engineers, fire inspectors and other agency staff. Schedules daily field inspection in the scheduling system /program as needed. In coordination with the Chief Building Official and staff completes and submits annual and supplemental budget to finance department. Schedules and coordinates meetings and conferences. Prepares and maintains departmental records and reports for meetings, notices, agendas, a d other matters. Handles routine administrative tasks; mailings, faxes, upkeep for the office equipment, order office supplies, staff clothing. Processes routine correspondence, email requests, letters, and memos; drafts appropriate response Screens incoming calls; handles phone calls and inquiries from citizens regarding information and specific problems. Coordinates and processes new construction utility meter releases. Liaison between IT and the Town's software vendor in regards to functionality and troubleshooting. Resolves complex and sensitive customer service issues. Maintains records and documents of customer service issues and resolutions. Handles difficult and/or technical correspondence including contracts and legal documents; maintains accurate records, reports, financial reports, and statistical reports. Performs related work as required and assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent (GED) One year of responsible administrative or clerical experience with heavy public contact and regular use of computers. A combination of education and experience may be considered. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
