The City of Pleasanton is excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated individual to join our team as a Temporary Program Assistant in the Public Works Department, Street Maintenance Division. In this part-time, temporary role, you will support the maintenance and repair of streets and traffic safety-related infrastructure throughout the community. Typical assignments include street and sidewalk maintenance, traffic sign and pavement marking work, storm drain maintenance, and litter and graffiti abatement. This position offers a dynamic, field-based environment where your work helps keep Pleasanton's public infrastructure safe, functional, and well-maintained for residents and visitors every day.

We're Looking for Someone Who Is:

  • Customer service-oriented and able to communicate effectively with the public and staff, both orally and in writing.
  • Detail-oriented, with a strong focus on doing quality work.
  • Well-organized, self-motivated, and proactive in completing assignments.
  • Dependable and able to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up with minimal direction.

In This Role, You Will:

  • Perform street maintenance activities such as pothole repair, skin patching, paving, crack sealing, and base repair.
  • Assist with sidewalk maintenance, including removal and replacement, concrete forming, pouring and finishing, offset mitigation, and concrete patching.
  • Fabricate and install traffic signs.
  • Install pavement markings and traffic legends.
  • Support storm drain maintenance, including leaf removal, medallion marking inspections, and removal and replacement work.
  • Assist with litter pickup and graffiti abatement to help maintain the appearance and safety of City infrastructure.

A Few Reasons You'll Love Working With Us:

  • You will have variety in your work—you'll gain hands-on experience supporting several important street maintenance functions.
  • You will have a meaningful impact—your work directly contributes to the safety, cleanliness, and usability of City streets, sidewalks, and related infrastructure.
  • You'll work closely in a team with Public Works staff in a role that supports essential City services.
  • You will have an excellent opportunity to learn more about public works, field operations, or municipal service.

A Few Challenges You Might Face:

  • Working outdoors in a physically active environment with changing daily priorities.
  • Responding to maintenance needs that require flexibility, attention to detail, and efficient follow-through.
  • Balancing multiple assignments while maintaining safety and quality standards.

The Ideal Candidate Will Be:

  • A high school graduate or possess a GED equivalent.
  • In possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License.
  • Professional and effective when interacting with customers and coworkers.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision while staying organized and meeting deadlines.
