Position Overview

The Seasonal Recreation Leader II - Mentoring Team Lead is responsible for assisting the program manager with planning and executing the Inspire to Lead mentoring program and providing guidance on supporting its participants, including, but not limited to, youth/families, volunteer mentors, and guest speakers.

The Opportunity

Led by RPCA's Community Engagement team, the Inspire to Lead mentoring program provides a structured, supportive environment where middle school youth can develop essential life skills, strengthen peer relationships, and build resilience through mentorship, group activities, and guided reflection, alongside trained volunteer adult mentors. The program will be held at recreation centers or park locations throughout the City of Alexandria on Monday and Thursday evenings. Mentoring Team Leads will be assigned to one program night (Mondays or Thursdays) from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. for the 2026-2027 school year.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage a caseload of up to 12 middle school youth
  • Support volunteer mentors in developing individualized service plans for each youth
  • Assist teaching relevant life skills lessons on a variety of topics for middle school youth
  • Monitor and ensure participant safety during all activities
  • Set up, maintain, and store equipment before and after programs
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful atmosphere

Your Impact

As a Mentoring Team Lead, you help young community members improve their health, build confidence, and stay connected through out-of-school-time activities.
