Job Summary

The Temporary Senior Director of Community Giving will provide immediate day-to-day leadership and operational oversight for the Community Giving team through the end of 2026.
The role will focus on successfully executing fundraising activities for the YMCA of Greater Seattle’s 150th anniversary Changemakers Gala on October 10, strengthening accountability across the Directors of Philanthropy, and establishing consistent systems for portfolio management, goal setting, activity tracking, forecasting, and reporting.
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this leader will bring structure and urgency to a fast-moving environment, ensure staff complete clearly assigned work, address performance and execution gaps, and provide reliable weekly and monthly updates to organizational leadership.

Minimum compensation for this role is $108,000-115,000 per annum, pro-rated for length of contract
Contract term: ASAP - January 4th, 2027

Responsibilities:
  1. Oversee Community Giving activities related to sponsorships, tables, tickets, donor outreach, auction procurement, fund-a-need participation, and other revenue-generating assignments.
  2. Translate fundraising goals into clear staff assignments, deadlines, and weekly activity expectations.
  3. Ensure each Director of Philanthropy has a documented portfolio, prospect list, outreach plan, financial goal, and next steps.
  4. Track commitments from initial outreach through payment, registration, stewardship, and event readiness.
  5. Maintain a master Changemakers tracker identifying progress, outstanding commitments, responsible staff, deadlines, risks, and next actions.
  6. Coordinate with the Chief Development Officer, Senior Director of Financial Development, and other organizational partners to resolve issues and maintain alignment. 
  7. Provide weekly reports on revenue secured and pending, completed activity, outstanding work, performance concerns, and decisions requiring escalation.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

Team Leadership and Accountability

  1. Provide direct day-to-day oversight of the Directors of Philanthropy and assigned staff.
  2. Establish clear expectations for portfolio management, outreach, follow-up, documentation, stewardship, and revenue performance.
  3. Conduct regular individual and team accountability meetings.
  4. Confirm that reported fundraising activity is supported by documented dates, outcomes, commitments, and next steps.
  5. Identify stalled prospects, missed deadlines, incomplete assignments, and performance gaps and intervene promptly.
  6. Provide direct coaching and feedback and escalate significant performance or capacity concerns to the Chief Development Officer.

Dashboards and Performance Management

  1. Build dashboards that provide visibility into revenue, pipeline, outreach, solicitations, commitments, payments, stewardship, and outstanding actions.
  2. Establish monthly revenue goals and activity commitments for each Director of Philanthropy.
  3. Create weekly scorecards comparing actual performance with assigned goals and deadlines.
  4. Develop a consistent forecasting process that distinguishes prospects, active cultivation, pending solicitations, verbal commitments, confirmed commitments, and received revenue.
  5. Prepare monthly Community Giving performance reports and recommend corrective action when the team is not on pace.

Operations and Year-End Transition

  1. Help manage the calendar, meeting cadence, deadlines, and day-to-day coordination required for Changemakers and year-end fundraising.
  2. Lead Community Giving execution following Changemakers through the end of the calendar year.
  3. Recommend improvements to team structure, portfolio assignments, capacity, systems, and future leadership needs.
  4. Prepare a transition report outlining progress, outstanding work, donor opportunities, performance risks, and recommended priorities for 2027.

Qualifications:
  1. Seven or more years of progressively responsible fundraising, development, nonprofit leadership, sales management, or related experience.
  2. Experience directly supervising fundraising or revenue-generating staff and holding them accountable for measurable goals.
  3. Demonstrated success managing fundraising campaigns, galas, sponsorships, donor portfolios, corporate giving, or annual giving.
  4. Strong ability to translate financial goals into specific staff assignments, timelines, and performance measures.
  5. Experience developing fundraising dashboards, forecasts, scorecards, and leadership reports.
  6. Exceptional organization, project management, judgment, communication, and follow-through.
  7. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and move between team leadership, strategy, coordination, and detailed execution.
  8. Intermediate computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite.
  9. Ability to maintain confidential information and use discretion.
  10. Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
  11. Ability to visit sites and community organizations.

 

Measures of Success in Role:

  1. Changemakers fundraising activities are clearly assigned, tracked, and completed on schedule.
  2. Leadership receives accurate weekly reporting on revenue, activity, risks, and next steps.
  3. Directors of Philanthropy have documented portfolios, goals, outreach plans, and measurable expectations.
  4. Fundraising activity and commitments are consistently documented and verifiable.
  5. Performance gaps and stalled work are identified and addressed promptly.
  6. Sustainable dashboards, reporting processes, and accountability practices are in place before the assignment concludes.
