General Information Come be a part of the JMU community and a valuable member of the Facilities Management team. James Madison University is seeking a few Temporary Summer Maintenance Workers for the Oil Burner Shop and for the Power Plant. No previous experience is required but a willingness to learn is essential.

Positions work up to 40 hours per week and start as early as May 4th and extend through August 21, 2026. Shift is Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. with some flexibility allowed.

Duties and Responsibilities • Assisting with the disassembly, inspection, cleaning, and re-assembly of boilers, convectors, hot water heaters, and heat exchangers. • Taking care of miscellaneous pipe work, insulation, valve replacements, etc.

Qualifications • Qualified applicants must be at least 18 years old as of the start date. • Mechanical knowledge and experience is helpful but not required. • Applicants for the Oil Burner Shop must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds with or without an accommodation. • Beneficial to have or to currently be taking HVAC vocational training.
