The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in environmental engineering with an anticipated start in fall 2027. We are particularly interested in scholars with expertise in environmental chemistry as applied to the fate and transport of contaminants in natural waters, anthropogenic impacts on the natural environment (e.g., chemical or ecological), engineering water treatment systems, and resource management and recovery.

The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering is home to 56 faculty and 17 staff offering B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering and architectural engineering to 400 undergraduate and 155 graduate students. The Department's mission is to contribute to technological advances that benefit humankind and enhance Earth's physical and biological resources, to educate undergraduate and graduate students to become leaders in the professional practice of engineering, and to foster an inclusive community that brings together students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The faculty specialize in the areas of architectural engineering, civil systems, construction engineering and management, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, global engineering, structural engineering, and water resources. The Department is home to the Center for Advanced Decision Support in Water and Environmental Systems, the Mortenson Center in Global Engineering and Resilience, and the Center for Environmental Mass Spectrometry.

The College's multidisciplinary Environmental Engineering Program is home to 18 program faculty from three engineering departments, 18 affiliated faculty from eight engineering and science departments, and six staff offering B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in environmental engineering to 240 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. The Program is ranked 11th for graduate programs and 11th for undergraduate programs in the United States. The faculty conduct research and teach in the areas of air quality, applied ecology, contaminant fate and transport, global engineering, and water and wastewater treatment. The successful candidate will be part of the Environmental Engineering Program and will be rostered with a tenure home in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering.

The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering and the Environmental Engineering Program are parts of the College of Engineering and Applied Science, which is home to 250 tenure-track, 120 instructional-track, and 30 research-track faculty serving more than 6,000 undergraduate students, 1,300 M.S. students, and 850 Ph.D. students in fifteen departments and programs. The College's success requires faculty who actively work to create an inclusive culture within the college and are committed to the campus plan of creating and sustaining supportive campus environments.

• Successful candidates will be expected to engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring, to develop an externally-funded research program in their technical area, to contribute professional leadership and service to their unit, the College, and their professional community. and to cultivate and contribute to the inclusive excellence of our academic community.
• The typical distribution of work for this role is 40% teaching, 40% research, and 20% leadership and service.

• The anticipated start date for this position is Fall 2027; however, a later start date may be negotiated.

• The anticipated academic year salary range for this position at the Assistant Professor rank is $115,000 to $128,000.
• A relocation stipend of up to $15,000 may be available within the guidelines of the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
