Full-time, 9-month, tenure track joint appointment between NTID and CLA in the field of performing arts (dance) at an academic rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor commensurate with experience in teaching and scholarship, with the possibility of summer contract, when necessary. This position provides a vital bridge connecting dance activities across all of RIT. Teaching responsibilities will include courses such as World Dance and Culture, Choreography, and Movement Analysis and Visual Expression. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain currency in their field of expertise and to build a local, regional, and national reputation. To attain tenure, faculty must satisfy institute expectations for scholarship and creative activity and achieve fluency in American Sign Language.

The National Technical Institute for the Deaf web page is located at and the Department of Performing Arts web page is located at The National Technical Institute for the Deaf is one of the nine colleges of Rochester Institute of Technology and is home to the world's first and largest technological college for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. NTID Department of Performing Arts was established in the fall of 1974, with the opening of the college's new permanent buildings, as an integral part of the curriculum following the success of the student drama club founded by Dr. Robert Panara in 1969. Today, NTID Department of Performing Arts offers an array of productions and theatre courses, including an Immersion and Minor in Dance. The department collaborates with other colleges within RIT, especially the College of Liberal Arts, School of Performing Arts. The RIT/NTID Dance Program is a community of students, scholars, artists, and artisans who regard the collaborative and creative process as the core of education, pursuing excellence and understanding through teaching and learning. Engaged in the creative process combining dance with technology, students are guided to discover ways of knowing themselves and the world around them using cognitive diversity.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MFA or equivalent, with at least one degree focused in dance.

  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience.

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with Deaf culture, or a willingness to learn.

  • Evidence of research and scholarly activities.

  • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college's continuing commitment to individual differences.
