Overview:

The Canine Performance Sciences Program at the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Temporary Canine Instructor for DCSITE.

 

The Canine Instructor I will support research and development activities by assisting with canine training, handling, and overall development. This role involves ensuring the health, welfare, and proper care of program canines, maintaining equipment and facilities, and participating in outreach initiatives. Additional duties may be assigned to support the mission and objectives of the Canine Performance Sciences Program.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with a one-year appointment, expected to end on or before July 31, 2026. Candidates must meet the minimum age requirements, be U.S. nationals, and successfully complete all required onboarding procedures.

 

Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:

  • Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
  • Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
  • Assistance with special projects

Responsibilities:
The TES Canine Instructor support the CPS Program by performing tasks including but not limited to:

  • Canine handling, training, acclimation, socialization, and care to support research and development activities.
  • Applying behavioral conditioning principles for working/research dog development.
  • Evaluating and documenting canine performance and behavior.
  • Transporting dogs locally and out-of-state, requiring overnight travel.
  • Assisting with CPS program operations, including outreach and public engagement.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older by Nov. 1st
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varied weather conditions
  • Understanding of animal behavior
Pay Range: USD $15.00 - USD $22.00 /Hr.
