Test Engineer

Role Summary

Plan, prepare, conduct, and document testing of AMPERA’s system and first-of-a-kind technology test programs.  The role translates engineering and qualification objectives into executable test plans and procedures, supports test article and facility readiness, directs assigned test activities, and evaluates test results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with design engineers and technical stakeholders to identify test objectives, requirements, acceptance criteria, operating limits, and required data.
  • Develop test plans, test procedures, test matrices, operating sequences, checklists, and supporting calculations.
  • Define test configurations, instrumentation requirements, measurement ranges, sampling rates, data acquisition needs, and calibration requirements.
  • Identify facility, utility, equipment, tooling, staffing, and supporting requirements early enough to support test-program planning and execution.
  • Support test article integration, facility modifications, equipment checkout, controls verification, and instrumentation installation.
  • Develop pretest predictions and expected system responses to support procedure development and real-time assessment of test performance.
  • Participate in hazards analyses, design reviews, procedure reviews, and test readiness reviews.
  • Serve as Test Conductor when assigned and direct procedures, maintain situational awareness, and coordinate the test team.
  • Verify prerequisites, initial conditions, personnel assignments, communications, and required approvals before beginning a test.
  • Monitor test parameters and direct holds, pauses, or shutdowns when test limits, safety requirements, or expected conditions are not satisfied.
  • Evaluate test data, measurement uncertainty, anomalies, and deviations to determine whether test objectives and acceptance criteria were met.
  • Prepare test reports, document conclusions, and communicate results, limitations, and recommended follow-up actions.
  • Maintain accurate and traceable test records, including configuration information, procedure changes, raw data, operator logs, and anomaly documentation.
  • Support troubleshooting, corrective actions, lessons learned, and improvements to AMPERA’s testing processes.
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, nuclear, aerospace, chemical, controls, systems, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to convert technical requirements into clear and executable test methods and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of instrumentation, data acquisition, engineering calculations, data analysis, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to understand integrated mechanical, electrical, controls, and thermal-fluid systems.
  • Clear written and verbal communication and the ability to coordinate effectively with engineers, operators, technicians, safety personnel, and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely, methodically, and collaboratively in a laboratory, industrial, commissioning, or field test environment.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with power-generation systems, thermal-fluid systems, supercritical CO systems, turbomachinery, high-pressure equipment, process controls, commissioning, or large-scale integrated testing.  Experience with test data analysis software, qualification testing, and formal testing practices is also preferred.

** What matters most is demonstrated technical judgment, vigilant preparation, clear documentation, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to turn engineering objectives into well-controlled and meaningful tests.

** Recommended application materials: a resume and a brief example or summary of a test plan, procedure, commissioning activity, or technical investigation the applicant helped develop or execute.

** Compensation for this position will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to a competitive salary, AMPERA offers a comprehensive benefits package, participation in the Company’s equity program through Incentive Stock Options (ISOs), and relocation assistance for qualified candidates, where applicable.

** Schedule:Testing is expected to be 100 - 300 hours. During testing, day shift is 0700–1900 and swing/back shift is 1900–0700. Shift personnel are expected to arrive 30 minutes early and stay 30 minutes after their scheduled shift for turnover.
