In this role, you operate a broad range of electromechanical, measurement, environmental, and mechanical test equipment while helping develop test procedures, fixtures, equipment, and supporting documentation. This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to life-changing continuous glucose monitoring technology and gain broad, hands-on exposure to mechanical testing, design verification, statistical analysis, failure investigations, and fixture development.

Responsibilities
  • Execute design verification and other product testing activities to support product development and verification.
  • Collect, organize, and document test results using Good Documentation Practices to ensure traceable and compliant records.
  • Assist with failure analysis and root-cause investigations to identify issues and drive corrective actions.
  • Conduct mechanical testing involving force measurement, displacement testing, deployment mechanisms, temperature, humidity, vibration, mechanical shock, and fatigue.
  • Operate a wide range of laboratory and test equipment, including tensile testing machines, multimeters, oscilloscopes, microscopes, temperature probes, data acquisition systems, environmental chambers, and fatigue testing equipment.
  • Support the development of test procedures, protocols, reports, and other supporting documentation for design verification and validation activities.
  • Design, test, and validate fixtures and equipment used for product testing, ensuring they meet functional and safety requirements.
  • Complete engineering studies and validation activities that contribute to product development and continuous improvement.
  • Troubleshoot test setups, equipment, fixtures, and measurement systems to resolve issues and maintain reliable testing operations.
  • Interpret test data and apply statistical techniques such as design of experiments (DOE), Gauge R&R, t-tests, and ANOVA to draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Manage multiple testing activities and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a dynamic testing environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with research and development (R&D) team members and other cross-functional partners to plan and execute testing.
  • Prepare clear, concise technical documentation, including test procedures, protocols, and reports.
  • Support occasional early morning, late night, or weekend testing activities when required by project timelines.
Essential Skills
  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least two years of relevant engineering or testing experience, with a target range of approximately two to five years.
  • Hands-on experience executing mechanical and design verification testing within a product development environment.
  • Practical experience with force measurement, displacement testing, deployment mechanisms, and environmental testing involving temperature, humidity, vibration, and mechanical shock.
  • Experience operating electromechanical test equipment and measurement systems, including common laboratory instruments.
  • Ability to collect and document test results using Good Documentation Practices.
  • Experience supporting failure analysis and root-cause investigations.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for test setups, equipment, fixtures, and measurement systems.
  • Ability to interpret test data and apply statistical analysis techniques such as design of experiments (DOE), Gauge R&R, t-tests, and ANOVA.
  • Effective technical writing skills for authoring test procedures, protocols, and detailed reports.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills for working within a collaborative R&D environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks in a dynamic testing environment.
  • Self-driven, highly organized, and detail-oriented approach to work.
  • Ability to collaborate across R&D teams and contribute constructively to group problem solving.
  • Flexibility to support occasional early mornings, late nights, or weekends when testing activities require it.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Familiarity with relevant medical-device, packaging, and environmental testing standards is preferred.
  • Experience with test method development and validation is beneficial.
  • Background in fixture design and development for mechanical and electromechanical testing is an advantage.
  • Comfort working with a variety of mechanical, environmental, and fatigue testing methods.
  • Interest in contributing to continuous glucose monitoring technology and other life-changing medical innovations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small, collaborative team setting and share knowledge with peers.

This role is based in an onsite R&D and product testing environment in San Diego, California. You will have an assigned workstation and work a standard schedule of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, totaling 40 hours per week with possible overtime when project needs require it. The position involves hands-on laboratory work with mechanical, electromechanical, environmental, shock, vibration, fatigue, and measurement equipment. Your daily activities will include a mix of product testing, data analysis, technical documentation, troubleshooting, fixture development, engineering studies, and validation work. You will be part of a collaborative team of approximately eight members and will sit with the team to encourage communication and shared problem solving. No travel is required, though some testing may necessitate schedule flexibility, including early mornings, late nights, or weekends.
