Our client is seeking a Test/ Lab Engineer with a strong mechanical background to join their testing laboratory. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on testing and evaluating mechanical and electromechanical systems, with responsibility for developing test methods, working with instrumentation and data acquisition equipment, and building and maintaining test setups.
The ideal candidate will enjoy a hands-on environment and bring a combination of mechanical aptitude, analytical skills, and troubleshooting ability. Experience with material handling equipment or industrial automation is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and conduct tests to evaluate the performance, functionality, and reliability of mechanical and electromechanical systems
Design, build, modify, and maintain test fixtures and laboratory equipment
Set up and operate transducers, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems
Analyze test results, identify trends or issues, and document findings in technical reports
Troubleshoot test equipment, fixtures, instrumentation, and testing procedures
Support the assembly and testing of material handling equipment
Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure required calibration and maintenance activities are completed
Partner with engineering and other cross-functional teams to identify opportunities to improve product quality and reliability
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts involving laboratory processes, test methods, and equipment
Basic Qualifications
Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field
Experience in a laboratory, testing, engineering, technical support, mechanical, or controls environment
Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings
Experience with material handling equipment (MHE), industrial automation, or similar equipment
Hands-on experience using hand and power tools
Experience with transducers, sensors, instrumentation, or data acquisition systems
Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field
3+ years of experience in a laboratory, testing, or lab engineering role
Experience with material handling equipment
Knowledge of statistical analysis methods
Familiarity with quality management systems
Experience with CAD software
Project management experience
Experience with 5S and continuous improvement practices
Total target compensation is $125-140k
