The Test Pilot SME requires extensive experience as an FAA Flight Test Pilot (or equivalent civilian industry experimental test pilot credentials) with direct experience working within an AIR office on complex aircraft certification projects.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree and and twenty (20) + years experience conducting an exhaustive review of related regulations, guidance, or policy; or equivalent combination of education/experience.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Test Pilot SME requires extensive experience as an FAA Flight Test Pilot (or equivalent civilian industry experimental test pilot credentials) with direct experience working within an AIR office on complex aircraft certification projects.
Must be able to demonstrate a proven track record of evaluating flight test plans for large transport category aircraft, with specific expertise in evaluating advanced flight deck automation, human-machine interfaces, and flightpath management systems.
Have extensive experience reading, interpreting, and applying complex FAA certification rules, flight test guides, and policy relevant to minimum flightcrew determinations, including a deep working knowledge of 14 CFR § 25.1523, Appendix D to Part 25, and associated ACs.
Have direct experience in evaluating pilot workload dynamics from a flight test perspective, conducting or participating in workload-focused testing, and identifying technical gaps for human factors and engineering data in existing guidance, processes, and data for minimum flightcrew determinations during the aircraft certification process related to workload evaluations.
Experience with supporting the execution of the regulatory and flight test data reviews, development of survey and semi-structured interview questions, and the structural design, beta testing, and refinement of the research plan.
The SME may be required to travel and assist with the active evaluation and beta testing of the research plan.

The estimated pay range for this role is $89/hr to $91/hr, with the final offer contingent on location, skillset, and experience.
