Job Summary
The Test Technician is responsible for conducting testing and validation of automotive components and systems, including suspension components, air management systems, and engine cooling products. This position performs mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, durability, and functional testing to ensure products meet customer specifications, engineering requirements, quality standards, and applicable automotive industry requirements.
The Test Technician works closely with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Product Development teams to identify issues, troubleshoot failures, document test results, and support the development and validation of new and existing automotive products.

The Test Technician will work primarily in an automotive test laboratory and/or manufacturing environment. The position may involve exposure to mechanical equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, electrical test equipment, elevated temperatures, noise, vibration, and moving machinery. Appropriate personal protective equipment and safety procedures are required.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory and vehicle-component testing according to engineering specifications, test procedures, and customer requirements.
- Set up and operate mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and environmental test equipment.
- Conduct durability, performance, functional, fatigue, leak, pressure, vibration, and temperature testing as applicable.
- Test suspension, air management, and engine cooling components and assemblies.
- Install test components, fixtures, sensors, instrumentation, and data-acquisition equipment.
- Monitor test conditions and equipment during testing to ensure accurate and reliable results.
- Collect, analyze, and document test data and prepare test reports.
- Troubleshoot test equipment, fixtures, instrumentation, and product failures.
- Assist engineers with root-cause investigations and product development activities.
- Support prototype builds, design verification, validation testing, and production testing.
- Maintain test equipment, fixtures, tooling, and laboratory areas in safe operating condition.
- Perform basic calibration checks and report equipment requiring calibration or repair.
- Identify abnormal test conditions, safety concerns, and product failures and communicate them promptly.
- Follow all company safety, quality, environmental, and testing procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of testing activities, results, failures, and corrective actions.
- Support continuous-improvement initiatives within the test laboratory and manufacturing environment.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or certification in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, or related field preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in automotive testing, manufacturing, laboratory testing, or a related technical environment preferred.
- Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and test procedures.
- Experience using hand tools and measurement equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and data-entry applications.
- Ability to accurately collect, interpret, and document technical data.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized procedures.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams.
- Independent test lab experience vs. inhouse
- Automotive industry testing experience.
- Experience with suspension, air suspension, air management, cooling, or other automotive components.
- Familiarity with data-acquisition systems and test instrumentation.
- Experience using sensors, thermocouples, pressure transducers, load cells, accelerometers, or similar equipment.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic test systems.
- Experience with environmental chambers, dynamometers, durability equipment, or automated test systems.
- Familiarity with ISO/IATF automotive quality systems and APQP/PPAP processes.
- Experience with root-cause analysis and continuous-improvement methodologies.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and work around test equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to safely handle automotive components, test fixtures, tooling, and equipment.
- Ability to lift materials within company safety guidelines.
- Ability to work around moving machinery, pressurized systems, electrical equipment, heat, noise, and other laboratory/manufacturing hazards while following required safety procedures.
